“1 Screen. Big Movie Experience.”

Cineplex The Park Theatre
Reviewed 28 June 2018

My partner and I visited Vancouver’s historic Park Theatre, which opened in 1941, this past Fall to watch “My Friend Dahmer.” After visiting many different Cineplex locations over the years, it was surprising – in a good way – to come across this Cineplex-owned property and see that it is but a single screen. Upon entering, you get the sense that you’ve stepped back in time to about the 1970s (must’ve been the colour of the walls!). Our movie experience was exceptional. The concession was clean and efficient while the seating in the auditorium was comfortable – not a bad seat in the house! The one thing that could potentially be an issue? Parking is fairly limited because it is all on-street metered parking on Cambie. Thankfully, we had no issues and, in fact, got “rock star parking” right in front of the entrance.

Overall, we enjoyed our experience at The Park and would return if they happened to be playing anything that caught our eye. Recommended!

If you want to see Cocoon, Raiders of the Lost Ark, My Fair Lady, etc then this is the place to go. And they have good popcorn. But if you want to see first run movies, like Arrival, you have to go elsewhere. We live in the neighborhood and used to enjoy walking to the Park Theatre. We used to enjoy going to one of the many restaurants in the area either before or after the show. Now, we have to go elsehwhere, take public transit or pay for parking for our car. The local restaurant business has gone down (according to one or two managers we talked to) We're wondering if this will impact the theatre as well and cause it to shut down? We used to see people lined up around the block to get into the Park Theatre on Cambie. No more. Too bad. A neighborhood gem - gone.

At the end of the day it's just a movie theater, but something is to be said for simplicity and classic feels. Usually 1 movie showing several times a day. Recently they offered Hateful 8 in 30mm film, which was such a great experience. Movie buffs gathered from far and wide to enjoy the experience.

Glad to live less than 1 block away.
