This aquarium is surprisingly and unassumingly big! Lots of different exhibits spread across the floors then outdoors are the penguins, sea lions etc. The gift shop is pretty big too lots of selection. We also caught the 4D film on sealife. There’s a cafe too. Only downside was it was a boiling day and didn’t seem to have very strong air conditioning inside.

We visited as two 60+ adults, and after a while, the combined squeals of dozens of small children in school groups or with parents did become quite painful. However, it was lovely to see the otters again- they always look as if they are having such fun.
A pleasant way to spend a couple of hours with children, pobably less for adults.

This is the best place with live animals i have ever been to. They seem to take such good care of the animals who actually seem very happy. There are sea otters, sea lions, and so much more. I loved it here!

My family and I really enjoyed the Vancouver Aquarium - best part is the live feed and petting of stingrays. All the kids loved it! Lots of different shows from the really big (dolphins and seals to penguins). Plan to spend hours there!

These days most “aquariums” have deteriorated to kiddy playgrounds, with inane exhibits. If you are lucky they have a few dozen actual fish, mostly the kinds that people eat so visitors can relate (and the obligatory clownfish). If you are very lucky they may have a crab or two, or a few snails. So, the Vancouver Aquarium was on the very bottom of my list of priorities when visiting Vancouver. Big mistake. It is fantastic!!! Totally blew me away. Please note that I am a PhD Oceanographer specializing in invertebrates, so I’m a tad biased. The anemones and jellyfish are unbelievable. Okay, I know that no-body besides me and a few other crazies care about anemones and jellyfish, but you gotta see them to believe them. But that is only the beginning. The depth and scope of the living collections are astounding – basically you can see, alive, closeup and personal, just about any creature which lives in coastal BC. Opps, there goes my bias again. But there are also great displays of saltwater tropical fish and freshwater fish. And truly a great display on the Amazon. And if that wasn’t enough, an extensive exhibit on amphibians (including adorable little bright blue frogs and salamanders) — and that’s only half the complex — I never got around to the outdoor displays which presumably contain penguins, seals, and such. And what about those kiddies? They were more fascinated than I was. At closing time, mothers were literately dragging their children way. It doesn’t have to be stupid to be child-friendly.
