I imagined that at the end of a long day, the train might feel confining, but unlike an airplane, at least you can stroll through a train, right? Not this one, though. At the start of the day, you're guided into your rail coach, and that's where you spend the entire day (each coach had a kitchen that didn't allow passengers to go through). And what a long day. The first day was a 10-hr ride. The second day was 14 hrs, much of it sitting on a siding with no explanation for why we were delayed 5 hours and arrived at 11 pm instead of 6 pm (we heard rumors the next day that a freight train had to be serviced and other trains couldn't pass until it happened). I could have flown to Australia in the time it took to ride from Kamloops to Jasper. Bus tours were a relief after the two days of trains, because we were able to exit periodically at worthwhile attractions, and things ran on time. If you don't like moving around much and would be happy to eat and drink and watch the woods go by, or not go by, consider the train. Otherwise, rent a car or take the bus.
