Description: We specialize in Aburi, or flamed-seared sushi, which was developed nearly a century ago in Japan. The act of applying fire directly to sushi enhances the natural flavours and textures of the fish, creating a new and exciting culinary experience. Miku owner Seigo Nakamura innovated the Aburi concept by crafting specialty sauces using non-traditional Japanese ingredients to pair with each type of fish. The light sear from the binchotan (Japanese bamboo charcoal) caramelizes the sauce, releasing a smoky aroma and bringing out the finest flavours in each piece of Aburi sushi. Miku Restaurant is within walking distance from the Pan Pacific Hotel, Canada Place, Fly Over Canada, Cruise Ship Terminals and Sea Bus.

We really enjoyed our experience at Miku. We intended on only eating sushi and were tempted into trying some items we may not have otherwise ever had.
We started with raw oysters which were DELICIOUS - I think we could have had lots more! Next we had the Aburi Beef Carpaccio - which was insanely rich and decadent. You have to try this! We also ordered a roll to split (I'd skip this, the sashimi was WAY better) The sashimi we ordered was fresh and beautiful. Like the oysters I think we could have just kept on going...
I'd recommend this place for great service and really great sushi.
HOWEVER - one thing was a little irritating. We had reservations and upon arrival were told it would be about 10-15 min -which is FINE, but - since they were "seating the bar" there was NO PLACE to wait for our table. No place for a drink, no place to sit So we were squished into a small standing area with many other people waiting. I just think its odd that a nice restaurant with impeccable service and food has no place to sit and have a drink while you wait for your table.

This is not a classical Japanese restaurant. The food is about average for a good sushi bar at quite high prices. It is very noisy due to its large size and poor sound insulation, noisy dinners, chefs who yell, and its bar-like scene. Service was very good, although it could be difficult to hear the server because of the loudness of the dining room. If you are used to high quality Japanese food served in a quiet restaurant this is not for you.

We had a great dinner. We brought out 2 kids and our waiter was excellent. He offered off menu rolls for our children, something they were familiar with. We ate the Aburi prime. The nigiri was delicious. We all felt that it was the best sushi we have had in a while. Would highly recommend.

In advance of our attending the Vancouver Jazz Festival, I had researched a number of restaurants and was intrigued by Miku. The chefs’ take on seafood was as creative as I expected and the decor and view were eye-popping. But my wife found the noise level way too high. And the hostess refused to seat us in a quieter patio area, saying it was reserved for walk-ups. Here’s my wife’s take on the experience:
Excessive noise marred
Pleasure in inventive food.
Won’t be coming back.
