We stopped here en route to Dorset for lunch. What a lovely pub in a great location. We were made welcome before we had even walked through the door when staff gave our dog biscuits in the garden!
I overheard someone praising the slow cooked ox cheek served on black pudding with a crispy hen's egg so decided to try it. It was delicious. My husband had crab and crayfish ciabatta which was also very good. All served promptly and with a smile. Will definitely be returning.

We've known The Bush for many years, but always tend to avoid it when it's busy; it is so popular that it can get very crowded. But a midweek lunchtime in February seemed like a very good idea, especially as it could be easily combined with enjoying the snowdrops on woodland banks, and a peaceful walk alongside the River Itchen.
Despite being a winter weekday lunchtime, though, there were people at almost every table; there is never any shortage of customers for this perfect pub. It's a Wadworth pub, which always earns it good marks as far as my husband is concerned; he went for the 6X, as expected. We didn't want a large meal, so went for the shared Butcher's Board, which was excellent - varied, interesting, well-balanced and delicious, and not too huge. We'll certainly be back: pubs as lovely as The Bush deserve to be visited regularly. And besides, it's nearly spring: it'll soon be time to spot the new crop of ducklings on the river!

This public house dates well back but the fare offered is fine contemporary and has excellent presentation. There is a good balance on the menu and a well stocked cellar in addition to the usual range expected of a Wadworths house. Particularly impressive was the light beer batter (gluten free) on the catch of the day and delightful dessert. In 4 diners there was everything to appreciate. Reservations are recommended as this can be fully booked.

Stopped here for lunch whilst on a walk, the weather and terrain hadn't been good and despite muddy boots we were welcomed here. the food was lovely and the staff very friendly and welcoming, would happily go here again and being near a river it would be a lovely in the summer but I suspect it will get busy,so would book a table to avoid being disappointed.
A great place with great food.
