“Gem of a cottage in great location!”
Reviewed 25 January 2015 for a stay in January 2015

We stayed with our children (10 and 8) in this warm and cosy cottage. It is in a lovely quiet position not at all overlooked and with no near neighbours (other than the fabulous wildlife). The owners have clearly spent a great deal of time and effort putting together the information about things to do and places to go (and there are an amazing number of places) so that it is easy to plan your stay cramming in things you might not have known were around otherwise. The extended garden is a treasure trove to be discovered by the adults as well as the children and we will have to come back to enjoy sitting in the near garden with great views when the weather is a bit kinder. The cottage was comfortable and well equipped and the wood burner was lovely as the weather raged outside. (Cottage warm without it though). This area of Scotland does not disappoint. It's like going back in time with great places to walk and play.

“Cosy and a true home from home”

A beautiful cottage with fabulous views. The rooms were very warm and cosy and it was obvious that new furniture and carpets had recently been installed. This is probably a 'woman thing', but the quality of the bedding was noticeable.
We walked into Port William on our first day through the fields; a bit soggy, but with blue skies and sunshine it was beautiful.
There's plenty to see round and about and Port Patrick was a particular favourite.
Would definitely recommend and would consider returning.

“The Perfect Getaway”
Reviewed 14 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Top marks for this gem! The location is superb - big skies and peaceful with cows, sheep, farmers and wildlife for company. The cottage is home from home and we REALLY did not want to leave after two weeks! Okay, so the weather was brilliant too ...

“Get away from it all”
Reviewed 12 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

My husband and I stayed at Burnside cottage the first week in June. This was our first time to The Machars in Scotland and we had a wonderful week discovering this lesser known area of Scotland in Galloway. The cottage was one of the best equipped we have been to and was cosy and very comfortable. The cottage is in the middle of glorious countryside with nothing around except fields and wildlife. Just what we needed to unwind! The owners had made every effort to make our stay relaxing and have added little touches like supplying bird food to top up the bird feeders. There was plenty of local information and maps provided with details of how to order a lobster straight from the boat at Port William! We will definitely return to this wonderful part of Scotland and use Burnside cottage as our base
