We stayed here for 3 nights and from the minute we arrived we felt at home. Without exception the staff are amazing, very friendly and helpful.
The room was large and the bed comfortable. A fridge and tea and coffee making facilities were provided. The bathroom was small but the shower was hot and powerful. We also had a roll top bath in the room.
We ate every night in the Black Horse and all the meals were excellent.
Would definitely recommend.

We first stayed here for one night back in 2012 and had such a wonderful experience, we felt we had to come back for longer. We finally made it - and we weren't disappointed.

Right from the first "hello" to the "goodbye" at the end of the 5 night stay, the staff were so friendly - nothing was too much trouble, typical of the best of Yorkshire. The room was spacious, clean, light and airy with a very comfortable large bed. Bathroom and shower were clean and everything worked. Although our room faced the road, there is so little traffic that we were undisturbed even with the windows open.

Copious amounts of tea and coffee were provided along with fresh milk and orange juice in the fridge. The in-room fridge could be heard but was not intrusive and we followed our host's tip - turn it off when going to bed - and turn it back on in the morning - the milk and juice is still cold! There was plenty of storage space, even for our rather more than adequate style of packing! Internet access was good, although the guest WiFi is not secured.

The meals are stunning. The full English breakfast is a challenge in itself in terms of sheer quantity and variety. Unless you have a monster appetite it may be best to be selective! The bacon and sausage are delicious and although the black pudding may not be to everyone's taste - it's definitely worth trying as it is home-made (very unusual). This is one restaurant that can REALLY make scrambled egg - and definitely not kept hot either. Breakfast is served between 9 and 10, but if this is problematic a hamper can be requested which is left outside of the room last thing - we tried this one night and found a good selection of cereals (cold milk already in the fridge), croissants and jam/honey/marmalade - all beautifully packed with spotless cutlery.

The evening meals are of similar scale and of exceptionally high quality. It is worthwhile booking a table as it can get crowded particularly at weekends. This is one of the very few restaurants that can offer a nicely cooked scotch egg with a set white and runny yolk - you can't do this in a microwave! Try it! Presentation of the food was similarly excellent. If you can manage a dessert, the sticky toffee pudding is to die for.

As for the pub side of things, there is a good choice of wines and beers - served at the right temperatures, with a choice of at least three ales and the Inn specialises in gin and tonic - having a menu that is devoted to this drink. I liked the beer so much, the GT didn't get a look in!

Lots of parking to the rear of the inn.

In all one of the best stays we've had (and we've done a lot) - well done.

Room Tip: All rooms are good. Rooms facing the road get sun in early morning - if this is a problem in the summer, bring an eyeshade.

We arrived late afternoon and met with friends for a drink in the garden. We got a lovely warm welcome from the manager and the staff as soon as we arrived. A great choice of drinks available in the main bar - plenty of Gins to choose from !

We were staying the night, so we checked into our room which was in the small annex building. A good sized room and a nice bathroom. Well appointed, with hanging space, bedside tables, good lighting, a flat screen TV, free wifi ( good signal !), and tea/coffee facilities a not forgetting the curly-wurlys !! Lovely comfortable bed which was avery large bed too ( a King size I think). The room was very clean and was very quiet.

We were booked for dinner at 8pm in the restaurant. The room is beautifully decorated, being light and airy, and with large tables. Plenty of room so you dont feel squeezed in.
We enjoyed superb food and also had a very good bottle of wine to go with it. The staff were exceptionally helpful and pleasant. They all ensured we were well looked after and attended to our table with a smile and a professional attitude. The food is worthy of special mention. Absolutely top quality.

We managed to enjoy starters, main courses and sweets, and followed with a coffee.

When we retired to bed we slept very well indeed, without being woken by traffic or any other 'hotel' noises that you frequently encounter when travelling.

Breakfast was also very good too. Served in the dining area of the bar, it was served promptly and hot, all being made to order.

Overall we had an excellent stay, and we thoroughly enjoyed the dinner in the lovely dining room.

I suspect we will be returning fairly soon.............

Thank you to all the staff. You made our stay an excellent one.

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to share your Black Horse experience with the Trip Advisor world.

This spot is very unique and provides a really relaxed environment for friends and families to gather and spend quality time together.

The menu is delightful and the gin selection is quite and eye opener! We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Very friendly staff with quaint rooms. Comfortable bed and very clean rooms. The fridge kept making a noise in the room and the water pressure kept reducing probably when someone else in the block used the water too. Also, only one showergel was left for us for the 2 night stay for 2 persons.
The food at the restaurant was fantastic. Only complaint is that we should have been given steak knives.
Lovely location, great parking and one of the best breakfast ever.
Thanks!

It was a special treat having the family together so we booked a table for 7.30pm by the bar. After a long wait we finally got a table in the dining room. The service was slow. We eventually got our wine. It was placed on the table and we had to ask the waitress to pour it for us. The cutlery was wrong both for the starter and the main. We had to ask for water and bread. We are regulars and were disappointed. It was not a cheap night out, the overall cost was £250. The standard has dropped. Next time we have a family meal out we will think twice before going to the Black Horse.
