This is my second trip to the Playa Del Carmen area and by far the best. Yes people complain and moan about the seaweed on the beach, but it's nature there is nothing you can do about it. and if you walk 300 yards up the beach there is an amazing spot that is sheltered by sea walls and the soft sand goes well out into the ocean.

The rooms were very nice and the staff was out early every morning making sure the hotel was spotless.

The food was excellent for the most part. The buffet was well stocked but the desserts were only decent. Not being a huge dessert person that didn't really bother me any.

Tao was only OK. The entertainment of it was excellent but the food was just simple steak/chicken/shrimp etc. You go there for the show, not for the food.

Aroma was absolutely incredible, as was the Rodeo grill and Bruschetta. You can also book to go to the sister resorts but although you pay more money for the Platinum side you are treated like second class citizens over there.

It was an amazing week and we will be going back next winter!

We have recently returned from the Platinum Yucatan. We were two couples travelling and seasoned travellers. This was our 8th trip to the Riviera Maya area therefore have not done any excursions.

As everyone mentions, do not go to this resort for the beach but we knew this before choosing this hotel and chose a swim-up room which is a must in our opinion. The beach is two leveled due to the hurricane damage, lots of seaweeds and extremely rocky.

The resort is very modern, clean and beautiful. We have eaten at all restaurants with the exception of the skylight which is not included. Our favorite was the Aroma restaurant and the less appreciated was the Rodeo Grill which we have tried twice.

Our first visit ate the Rodeo Grill we received extremely slow service (and no we are not the type to complain nor are we in a rush at dinner). After 1.5 hours sitting at the restaurant we had only received a glass of wine and our appetizer (vegetable soup which was very good and salad which was dry but presentation beautiful). After over 2 hours we finally received our main plate; the sirloin steak was delicious but the rib eye a little tough. As we were waiting for service, we noticed that the folks sitting outside at the special tables that you need to pay for or purchase a bottle of wine were being served extremely well with lots of attention...2 couples actually arrived after us and left with full 4 service dinner served and eaten before we even received our main course. After 2.5 hours for us, we had yet to order desert and therefore decided to leave and have desert at the buffet. On our last night, we had decided to give the Rodeo Grill à second chance and received better service.

The buffet restaurant was excellent for breakfast and lunch with Thursday’s being seafood night with all you can eat lobster. It was excellent!

Activities at the Platinum are plentiful for those that want to move. We have done yoga/Pilates everyday while the men played tennis. Water aerobics and Zumba are also offered at the main pool. Saturday was the foam party at the pool and every day something different was organized at the main pool and entertainment and show every evening. Shout out to the entertainment team for a job well done.

We stayed in room 2031 which is in block 2 but on the opposite side of the main pool. We had shade in the morning, but sun all afternoon which we appreciated as this allowed us to enjoy the site activities in the morning and the sun and our room in the afternoon. This was a very peaceful area and loved it.

Being a guest at the Platinum Yucatan, we had access to the sister hotels and its restaurants which we tried one night (La Fondue) but enjoyed the Platinum much better. The sister hotels are crowded and much noisier with families and the amount of people at the resort. It was nevertheless nice and enjoyed the walk as these were very large resorts, but was glad to return to the adult only Platinum Yucatan.

Finally, we would return to this hotel if the price was right and would not get a 5 star due to the beach.

5 days at Platinum Yucatan Princess, great resort. By far our favorite dinner was at Bruschetta and our waiter Nestor Angel Hernandez was fantastic. Ask for him and order pasta with bolognese. We did have dinner at Tao. It was good too, but hands down favorite was the pasta

We travel a lot to different beach vacation locations. Sometimes as a couple and sometimes with our children.
Upon appearance, it appears nice and well kept. By our own mistake, we didn’t realize there is NO WHERE to see and enjoy the beach unless your rooftop. To even get to the beach, you have to cross a bridge that is over a little area with crocodiles.
The beach...how I wish it was somewhere I had wanted to relax at. Having been to the area before, we knew there was always some seaweed but there was seaweed everywhere. You had to leap over piles and piles of seaweed to even get to the water and for some reason, the beach smelled. There is a very small width of beach and then a few foot drop off to get to the water, but we tried once and it was just gross.
Room...looks nice, laid out a little oddly and the air conditioning was somewhat working. You can only adjust the thermostat to a certain temp and it was not cool. Add a ceiling fan at a bare minimum!!! Marble floors when you are coming in from the pool is not a good combination. We talked to a lot of people who fell, including my husband.
Food...room service menu was sad. For breakfast you can pick toast, sweet bread, fruit or cereal.
Restaurants...so so. I get the long pants thing for men at very high end hotels but this isn’t one and although we knew my husband would probably need pants, many people didn’t and they wouldn’t let people in to eat. What is wrong with khaki shorts? It’s 85 degrees out. I wouldn’t want to wear pants!
Would we go to this resort again? No. Would we suggest it? Only if someone had zero interest in the beach/ocean aspect and weren’t picky about food.
