Aldea Thai was a perfect location. Walk out your door to the beach in 2 minutes. Walk less than a block and you are on 5th street and ordering your Starbucks favorite or less than a stones throw you are at some great happy hour spots that have great cheap drinks every night. The only challenge is making a decision on what kind of food you are going to eat every night.
Walk about a half mile to the ADO bus station and take a $5 trip to Cancun or the Isla Mujeres Ferry port. A perfect location to enjoy the best of Playa. Good drinks also at the swim up bar in Aldea Thai but big city prices. The gym is decent enough to get a good vacation work out in.
Avoid the "convenience" and liquor store close next to the bars and smoothie shop. They make their own exchange rate up and there are OXXO's in the lower level of Aldea Thai that you can take advantage of.
There is also a Cross Fit gym on the lower level. I highly recommend a snorkeling tour that can be booked for $60 / person via the 5th Ave. information areas and taking the ADO bus to the Isla Mujeres ferry and renting a golf cart in Isla Mujeres to tour the island for the day. Both the Ado bus and Ferry are cheap. ($15 round trip per person for both transports) (get to Isla Mujeres early - before 11 am as they can run out of carts). Golf cart should run you about $50 for the day and they hold 4 people. Try the fish tacos at Zama beach club and hang out in their pool for a while while driving around the island.
