I've decided there are two types of vacationers: those who typically stay in hotels, and those who typically stay in condos. I'm a hotel person; been visiting Cozumel for 20 years and usually stay at El Presidente. But this was Spring Break, and the family consisted of me, my ex-hubby and our two teenagers. A 3-bedroom condo fit the bill, with more space for a family, laundry facilities, and right on the beach in a good area. The condo was perfectly situated, right up front facing the ocean. It was clean, and the housekeeper was wonderful. One designated parking slot. However, the place was pretty outdated, with mismatched linens, chipped dishes, a kitchen that's not meant for real cooking (apparently you have to light the tiny oven with a match...and there were none to be found). (I'm afraid my hotel snobbery is peeking through.) If none of that bothers you, then go for it! This condo really does have a wonderful location (despite the cruise ship tourists who are bused to the bar next door and hang out on "our" beach). You'll probably be outside most of the time, anyway :) Note for scuba divers: smaller dive boats will pick you up at the beach in front of the condo; you'll need to walk a little way out into the water (somewhat rocky, but do-able with your dive booties), schlepping your dive bag. They'll lower a ladder. For snorkelers: decent -- but not great -- snorkeling nearby. We swam to Chankanaab, watched the poor captive dolphins through the underwater fencing, and continued to the other side of that disgraceful dolphin show for better snorkeling.
