Mary Claire was the best owner to work with! She answered SO many questions for me before I rented. There were no other reviews so I was taking a chance that everything would be exactly as stated in the description and it was! I would rent from her again in a heartbeat! This was our first visit to Cancun and to Casa Maya and we would definitely return! I will say that I would not stay there unless I had the Elite benefits. For one thing, the rooms are very nice and very different from the non-Elite. I know this because we stayed in two of them our first night due to an early arrival and not being able to check in until Saturday. The rooms were spacious and had large balconies. However, they smelled musty and the carpet wasn't very nice but it wasn't the worst. Both rooms ended up having issues; one of them had a pipe burst under the kitchen sink and flooded the entire condo. The other room had water dripping from the ceiling in the closet which in turn soaked and entire suitcase full of clothing, all of which happened in the middle of the night (all of the clothing was laundered and returned to us free of charge.) I can't emphasize enough how accommodating and apologetic the staff were and helpful in getting us moved. As a result, we were upgraded to our Elite room and in fact were given a corner unit, 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom, double balcony in the front and another balcony off a bedroom on the 6th floor in the second building for our entire stay! The room was beautiful and those beds were extremely comfortable with very nice linens. The furniture on the balconies were high chairs and tables so you could see over the wall of the balcony which is a solid wall, not like a deck at home with spindles, so if you had low chairs you would not be able to see over it. The Elite beach was very nice with better chairs and the nice canopied "beds" to relax in (you had to reserve these and could do so 24 hours in advance.) The pool was so warm and the two hot tubs were drained and cleaned every single night. You can walk end-to-end of the beach in about 15 minutes so it's not a lot of beach walking area. We felt completely safe there. There is not really anything around to walk to but the buses are so easy to use and can be caught right across the street. We used them often. Upon arrival, we sat with a time-share rep for about 15 minutes. It wasn't a hard sell and although he encouraged us to spend more time with him, we opted not to and were never bothered again. Take the catamaran sunset cruise-it was so awesome! No timeshare sales or anything like that-just a nice perk for Elite members! Casa Maya had a lot of retired people and young families. No wild spring break college scene here at all. If you are looking for a party, you will not find it here. But you will find extremely gracious and friendly staff, really good food-even at the beach- and a nice relaxed atmosphere. Our 16-year-old girls loved every minute of it and can't wait for next year. Thank you, Mary Claire, for all of your help and for providing us with a wonderful place to stay on our Cancun vacation!
