I have no idea how this hotel has gotten so much returning visitors from Canada. I felt like i needed a vacation after this "vacation" First of all, the beds are rock hard and the pillows are far from being fluffy. It's like an old stuffed animal that you will try to rest your head in. I'm not very picky at all. I'm used to the 3rd world country life, but vacation should be nicer than that. Also, only certain people were friendly. A shout out to David who was the best bartender in the main lobby. Also to Alejandro and all his staff in the dinner reservation section and of course Antonio will meet you with a smile when you arrive. Besides those happy faces, most people looked like they hated being there. I have been to many all inclusive resorts and this by far has been the WORST ever and will never go back. I went to the Buenaventura grand last year and had such a wonderful experience and will probably go back there often. Also, they are trying to cut costs not only on cheap beds and pillows, but on the seafood. They say it's all inclusive, but they sell the seafood because it's more expensive..what?! Please don't waste your time, go to another hotel.

Room Tip: If after reading my review for some reason you still decide to go, ask for an egg crate mattress or foamy to help cushion the bed.

This was our first time staying at the hotel and we were pleased with the service and friendly staff. The first room we stayed in was old and worn and the air conditiong lous. Once we upgraded to a 4th floor corner junior suite things improved greatly! Evran the GM and staff were outstanding and we would stay at the hotel again given the deal we got to go on the trip.

Looking for a small intimate resort? This is it!! EVERYONE is so friendly: all the staff and guests greet you as though you've been friends for ages.

Many guests have commented that the beds are hard. I decided to try out the bed before asking for a pad: no issue with the bed, it was quite comfortable, no padding required.

The thing I liked the very best about the resort is that the wonderful Activation team could spend time with one single person. The adventurous Pablo took just me out for a kayak tour: just him and I for over an hour of his time. Look for Pablo and get to know him, he's full of information about the area and Mexico. An older woman who was there by herself told me that Pablo came to her lounge chair and did some exercises with her a few times--just her!! Another time I saw the manager of the activation team playing ping pong with a guest. Jose on the activation team is so full of energy; not sure how he does the full day at the resort and then takes out groups to local establishments at night, but he does it with great enthusiasm.

Pretty much all staff speak English, the maids not so much, but with some creative hand gestures you can always get your message across. They are so very friendly and welcoming.

In the main dining area Rosa the omelette cook will become your friend right away. She can whip up an omelette to your liking pretty fast, or whatever kind of eggs you want. Rosa is the provider of the bacon, just ask her for some, she keeps it warm in a drawer under the grill. Servers that we had that deserve some mention are: Yolanda, Oscar and one meal we were served by the two Jesus'--great servers all of them.

The A la Carte restaurant is open every day but Friday and can be booked as often as you want. Just make a reservation the morning of the day you want to go there with Rosa Marie the Concierge. Rosa has a fantastic sense of humour, we were laughing pretty well every time we stopped to ask her questions. In the A la Carte restaurant you'll be asked by Alejandro what food you would like and Miquel will serve your drinks and help with food service as well.

Also part of the A la Carte that you can book with Rosa Marie is a meal at Si Senor's in town. We went for an early dinner (5pm) and were treated like Princess's by the staff and introduced to their Macaw who sang us a song. The meal was superb. Just be sure to tip them as though you had a full price meal. It's a set menu but has several choices on it. Drinks are not included in the meal but can be purchased. Following dinner we walked to the Malecon and enjoyed some early evening activites while watching the sunset. It's an easy bus ride to the Malecon and is also a walkable distance if you're used to walking. I had searched for the distance and length of time it'd take to walk it while at home. One of the guests laughed at me when I said Google Maps says it's a 40 minute walk. "Yes" she said, "but it took us 1 1/5 hours" Why? Because they window shopped the whole way :-)

From late morning until late afternoon the A la Carte restaurant serves as a snack bar. The cook there: Ricardo makes burgers, hot dogs, fries and has pizza, went out of his way to make one of our group a vegetarian stir fry one day and a cheese only pizza another. Way to go Ricardo!! That was much appreciated!!

Lounge chairs at the pools tend to be reserved early. One guest who was up early each morning on her balcony told us the reserving of lounge chairs started around 5:30 am. I was reserving chairs on the beach and that was usually after 7:30, but not all of the chairs were out at that time. The guy seemed to come back around 8:30 to put out more chairs and set up the umbrellas. Most days by about 2pm you could find empty chairs at either the pools or the beach. There's also a wall along the length of one pool and the restaurant that is great for sitting on.

Sunsets are amazing. Right over the water and full of colour!!

The nightly entertainment was far better than I've seen at any resort I've been to. The reason being, this is a small resort and they don't use their own employees to dance every night. They bring in about 5 of the 7 shows each week: Karaoke and Games nights were the only shows hosted by the resort and they were run by the activation team: mainly Jose and Pablo. The Vegas show wasn't to my liking, but to each their own. I don't like when girls are wearing barely anything and the guys are all is shirts and vests. The rest of the shows were fantastic. I was there for 2 weeks and some of the shows switched up so weren't repeated the second week.

Rooms and hotel were clean, air conditioning worked, food was good, entertainment was there if and when you wanted it and the weather was phenomenal (no rain) for the 2 weeks I was there. What more could you ask for?

I have to mention the crocodiles. Apparently there are 4 living in an estuary beside the hotel (if you're facing the water, it's to the right--past the beach lounge chairs and at the back of the beach area where the estuary starts) one usually comes out of the estuary around 3pm and basks in the sun. We saw two different sized crocodiles, but only ever one at a time. That's all it does is sits there with its mouth open. Apparently the Kentucky Fried Chicken store at the other end of the estuary throws their left over chicken to them each day--so they aren't hungry for people. Just don't get too close, you never know with wild creatures.

Room Tip: Ask for a key to your safe (no charge) when checking in--save the trip back to the office.

I am writing this very long review as I wind down my 33 day vacation at the Las Palmas By The Sea.
This resort is small with a quaint/friendly atmosphere. Would I recommend this resort to other travelers? --A DEFINITE ‘YES’. Would I come back?—A DOUBLE “YES”!
This resort is ideally situated along a busy strip where you can peruse local shops and restaurants. It is close to the Malecon (30-minute walk or 10-minute bus ride which costs equivalent to 50 cents each way)—a must see outing!
I hope you find this review helpful.
Staff
From the moment I stepped foot onto the resort, I was truly impressed with the warm and friendly service. The bell boys were funny, animated and informative. Most of the staff demonstrate high degrees of professionalism and positive energy—always smiling and going out of their way to ensure the guests’ enjoyment.
I have some chronic health issues and Effren (front desk manager) went above and beyond the call of duty to make my stay safe and comfortable. A big “THANK YOU” to Effren. Truly, all of the front desk staff are amazing!
RESTAURANTS/BAR SERVICE:
Bar Service: I am in total awe with respect to how efficient the bartenders manage the crowds. I never experienced long waits even on the busiest of days. I have to say that out of the many places I have travelled, the bar service here is the most efficient— five-star service in this department. David, who works the lobby bar alone, is a master bartender. I’m in awe of his ability to serve large crowds with the efficiency of 3 bartenders. Eduardo (beachside bar) is quite an entertaining character. I would be remiss to not mention Pablo and Armando who were also great. Francesco and Inez gave attentive beach/poolside waiter service.
Buffet: There is one main buffet that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Miriam and Olivia (greeters) welcomed guests with big lovely smiles. I really appreciated these ladies. The breakfasts are really good: lots of fresh fruit, yogurt, pastries, -- a whole array of different dishes. The staff in the buffet are quick and responsive. A special shout out to Victor, Santana (grill), Yolanda and Alex( who has gorgeous eyes!). Rosa at the Omelette Station was absolutely wonderful! There is a neat juicer bar with quite a list of ingredients to choose from (spinach, cactus, pineapple, apples, celery, parsley, almonds, walnuts…..) The Panini Bar at lunch was quite good! Each day there are a variety of soups—yummy and nourishing! I thought it was a really nice touch to have water stations throughout the day (pineapple, watermelon, guava, lemon, …) I would fill up my water bottle and it was a great way to stay hydrated. I recommend you bring a large travel mug. Each room is given two small bottles of water each day – however, there is lots of water access all throughout the resort during the day.
To be totally honest, dinner at the buffet was hit and miss-- some evenings were better than others. If you are a vegetarian, there is not a huge selection of fresh or cooked vegetables. But overall, there is plenty of food to choose from --you won’t go hungry.
I was really looking forward to eating lots of guacamole in Mexico but it is not included. However, for a small fee (amounts to about $4.50) you can have it made fresh—worth the expenditure, in my view!
Poolside Grill: This is right beside the family pool (doubles as a la carte at night). There is a small buffet selection from about noon till 5:00 p.m. Richardo who works the grill (hamburgers, hotdogs, French fries…) provided wonderful service—accommodating special dietary needs!
A la Carte: You can book the A La Carte every night (except Friday when it is closed). Rosa who takes the reservations is warm, friendly—a lovely person! The meals and service here are exceptional. The restaurant is idyllically located overlooking the ocean and awesome sunsets! My favourite dishes were the salmon, grilled fish, drunken fish and spinach ravioli. The meals have a beautiful presentation—my compliments to the chefs—I’m sorry that I do not know their names! I commend the excellent service provided by Carlos, Alexandro, Oscar and Miguel—the bartender, who prepares really unique special pre/post dinner cocktails. These four are an awesome team and contribute to the splendid dining experience. Some nights it can get quite breezy/chilly in this restaurant, so bring a sweater. The staff are also happy to provide a blanket to wrap around chilly shoulders—a nice touch!
Si Senor: Included in the package is a dinner at Si Senor which is close to the Malecon. This restaurant is gorgeous – a 3 story tropical like setting. There is a set menu for the hotel guests. The meal was fabulous. Caution: Drinks are very expensive there…water is the same price as beer. I DO recommend you check this place out.
Activation and Entertainment: Pablo and Jose do a fabulous job at keeping guests busy and happy. For the first two weeks, two girlfriends joined me on the vacation. Pablo and Jose were very accommodating when we expressed a desire to kayak---they took us out several times, even when it wasn’t on the schedule. There are plenty of activities to keep you as busy as you want to be….Zumba, water aerobics, beach volleyball, blackjack, bingo… After the show, each evening, Pablo and Jose offer an excursion to a local nightclub where one could party the night away. I heard it was fun but I am getting a little too old for all-night parties…lol
The shows were usually good. The magic show was neat. The traditional Mexican dancers were delightful. I was astounded at the talent that participated in Karaoke each week!—amazing! They have a rock band play each week and the music is good—got people up dancing. Sometimes the band sang off-key but overall it is a good show. There was a games night show that involved the kids and other guests and it was kind of fun to watch participants have their chance to be on stage.
I have one complaint though about the entertainment: There was one performance that was totally inappropriate for the children. The entertainers, scantily attired, danced to a Lady Marmalade song “Vous Les Vous Coucher Avec Moi?”--the translation is “Will You Sleep With Me Tonight?”---there was lots of bumping/grinding—far too pornographic for family entertainment. My advice is that they remove that piece of choreography—the show won’t suffer for it.

Beach and pool: The two pools and beach are clean. Although one is not supposed to reserve chairs, people do. However, I always was able to find a chair. I think that the resort could do with a few more umbrellas. The sun is hot –almost unbearable in the mid-day. You can walk along the beach but there are rocky areas—sometimes you have to do a little climbing. The sand is brown. Some days the beach was really rocky—I think it had to do with the tide. There are lots of pebbles as you get into the water and then a sudden drop off—sometimes the undercurrent can be quite strong. I spent most days on the beach and enjoyed it.
There are beach vendors but if you say ‘no thank you’ they don’t harass you.
Running alongside the resort, there is a lagoon that is home to crocodiles. In the heat of the day, you are able to see them out on the beach sunning. There is no fencing to separate these creatures from the guests but they don’t bother you—just use caution and don’t get too close—and keep an eye on small children and pets who may wander! I heard that Kentucky Fried Chicken feeds the crocodiles each day to prevent them from snacking on tourists…lol Iguanas are up in the trees along the lagoon.
During my stay, I spotted dolphins and whales out in the bay. I saw these from my balcony and while on the beach.
Cleanliness: This is a very clean resort. The cleaning staff and gardeners do an excellent job at keeping the beach, grounds, pool, lobby, public washrooms in immaculate condition.
Rooms: The rooms are simply furnished—and clean and comfortable. Their rooms are equipped with a hairdryer, telephone and flat screen t.v. You can ask to borrow an iron and ironing board. I always had hot water—sometimes too hot…lol. The air conditioning worked perfectly. Some people complained about hard mattresses and were provided with mattress toppers. My bed was fine—I like a firm mattress. I had a top floor ocean view room—the sunsets from my room and the beach and the pool were breathtaking! My maid, Susan, was amazing!---very friendly and accommodating. “THANK YOU”!!!
There were some complaints of noise. The way the resort is designed, sound travels throughout the hallways and also filters in from outside nightclubs. I was not troubled by noise. I suggest that guests who are light sleepers bring a set of foam earplugs. In the event that loud party goers are disturbing your sleep, just call security; they are very good at quieting things down quickly.
Gift Shop: The resort gift shop has reasonable prices. They have a decent assortment of beach bags, t-shirts, hats,…..
Banking: The bank machines accept Interac. Most restaurants and shops accept credit cards. At the resort everything is cash. The front desk will exchange your money and give you smaller bills for tips. However, the exchange at the bank around the corner is a little better.
Medical: There are clinics within walking distance and the cost is quite reasonable. I hear the hospital is state of the art. I became quite ill and opted for a doctor who does house calls. He visited me twice a day for a few days and gave me medications to continue taking for another 10 days. The cost was about $450.00 Canadian--more than double the cost of a walk-in, but I was so sick and felt it was worth it!
Internet: It is free but very spotty connections. My advice is to unplug and don’t waste valuable vacation time wrestling with the wifi.
SUMMARY: I would highly recommend this resort to anyone. This hotel provides all the comforts and services that you need. It is not a 5-star resort but it delivers big time in guest service, comfort and holiday satisfaction! There are many repeat guests who have come for 15 years or more—that speaks volumes! Some guests stay for a month or more. There are lots of Canadians here, some Americans. On the weekends and holidays there tend to be lots of Mexican guests—they are warm, friendly people and just add to the charm of Las Palmas By The Sea. When my friends left to go back to Ontario, I was at the resort on my own for two and a half weeks and the staff and guests were so friendly—I never felt lonely. I leave here in a few days and have to say I am sad to go. Las Palmas By The Sea has been like a home away from home for me. I’m sure I will be back.

Where to start? Of all the years (10 plus) I've travelled to Mexico with all inclusive's this was the worst! Rooms were dirty and not cleaned well daily, we had requested ocean view with a king size bed, No king bed and the ocean view was obstructed, plus the room was just tired. Needed some major updating. Booking 5 months before we were going thought we would get what was requested. Travelled with 2 other couples, who one because of major complaining did get a beautiful room on fourth floor, gorgeous view and spacious and updated. The other couple ended up with a ground floor room, no ocean view, no king bed, NO privacy at all. None of us got what we had requested and they weren't too happy about moving us. The decks were small and narrow and one couple had a partition between their room and the next on the balcony that was only about 2 feet high! That's ok if you know the people next door, but they did not. They did get moved, but to a bottom floor with no ocean view. Rooms were small with no place to put anything in the bathroom! The air conditioning in all our 3 rooms was loud and smelled funny. I'm sure there is a lot of mold growing in those units, and in fact all us did get sick with sore throats and coughing. My husband got sick day 3 in & only felt better the last 2 days of our 2 week vacation here. The whole resort was people sniffling and coughing everywhere! All rooms had a safe, but ours wasn't attached to the wall! Anyone could have just taken the whole damn thing! The manager Efron did rectify that immediately thank goodness. Food was terrible. Three nights we left to go downtown to eat as we really could not find one good thing on the buffet. And some nights we just couldn't face that buffet and just went out. Other nights we made do, but it was bad. Breakfast was okay, the rest of the day was awful. Beef broth soup? come on. Lots of leftovers reheated over and over. We spent a lot of extra money on food that we shouldn't have had to going to an all-inclusive. Drinks were ok. Honestly all the staff were excellent and tried to do the best they could with what they had. Daniel and Eduardo at the Hurricane Bar were fantastic! But they only rinsed the plastic cups and then served drinks in them! So whatever anyone else in the resort had you also were exposed to that. yuck. There was only one sitting area to sit at with nice couches, chairs and tables just out of the lobby, so no ocean view and a wind tunnel, could be quite cool sitting there playing cards. Ocean view there was a sitting area, but during the day it was a restaurant you had to pay at and couldn't sit at the tables unless you did! What the heck? I thought this was all inclusive? Pool area, lobby were nice and clean. Although if you didn't get out to the pool by 6 am you weren't sitting there as the chairs filled up with towels saving them by then. We did not sit at the pool once, which was actually pretty nice and warm water! Beach was much the same, but if you were out by 8:30 you could get a chair. Lots of vendors but they left you alone with your no gracias. no problems. Small beach but nice enough and the water was great. Very loud in the hotel! You could hear what your neighbors and everyone else wandering the halls were saying/doing at all hours of the night. Our neighbors sat on their deck every morning at 6:30 am talking loudly and smoking, which drifted into our room even with the door closed tightly. Next door to the hotel was a disco which kept us up most of the night with the thump, thump of the music over the weekend. Two weddings happened while we were there and man was it ever noisy those nights! That was expected though. I loved the quaintness of the hotel and like to stay in a Mexican feel hotel and this had that, but it was definitely not worth the money we paid to stay for 2 weeks and we were all very disappointed. This should be a 2 star, no higher. Reading some of these other reviews I wonder if we stayed at the same place. I would not recommend nor will I ever return. For the money we paid to stay here for 2 weeks and all the extra money we spent on eating outside the hotel because the food was so terrible, we could have stayed at a 5 star. Live and learn and buyer beware.

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor corner room facing the ocean.
