Collapsing ceiling Westin Resort and Spa Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 5 weeks ago
We had a shocking experience when the ceiling of our room collapsed in front of us and nearly striking me. It was a horrible experience, we felt like the whole building was going to collapsed. The manager from the Hotel Mr. Ruben Escalante only honored us 70,000 points and I definitely think we deserve more. My daughter had a severe panic attack due to this incident.

Don’t go there if you don’t want to experience unbearable noise all day from remodeling starting at 9-5 pm every day. You can hear drills as they are just next to your ear in your room and in the pool. You just can’t have a rest or nap during the day! On top of that they don’t hesitate charging you resort fee every day and other hidden taxes and fees you are not aware of! Breakfast is not included and it’s kind of pricey - around $30 plus they automatically charge tips. If you eat with family your breakfast bill will run you bankrupt at the end of your stay. Kind of overpriced for Mexico!!!
The beach sucks, we never go there for 10 days! Brown water.
I will never stay there nor recommend anyone! There are much better hotel with better beaches with breakfast included. I should have made my research.

It has been at least 15 years since I have been back here and I have had such a wonderful experience. Check in is at 3pm and the front desk staff was really nice. Our room is on the 7th floor with a beautiful view of the ocean so we watched Cruise Ships sail by. The room smells like fresh wood every time we entered it. The beds are very comfortable and the interior design is sleek and calming. The pools are relaxing. We had the breakfast buffet at El Palmar restaurant which has an stations where staff makes omelettes, tacos, French toast, and waffles to order. Our server, Israel, was super attentive and nice which was the epitome of fine dining. I really enjoyed my stay and recommend folks check it out. I will be returning next time!

Our first visit to Puerto Vallerta was a great one at the Westin! Architecturally attractive, we were expecting a suite with a Plunge Pool as an upgrade due to our "status" with Bonvoy, but were told at checkin that those rooms were out of service for construction and our certificates would be returned, and we were given a high room instead and a certificate for a free day at their beach cabanas.

What a scam that was because we enjoyed it SO much that we had to buy it for the next day! :) Adriana and the beach and restaurant crew were incredibly attentive and made us really feel welcomed. We were certainly the first ones out there both mornings and hardly left at all and definitely got our money's worth!

The room was nice, we aren't fans of the "frosted glass bathroom wall" thing, as a midnight visit shines light throughout the room, hopefully in their property upgrading they can get rid of these things! The room was immaculately kept, though, with plenty of towels and toiletries, and the A/C was very strong.

Platinum breakfast is the cold buffet, based on the check we received that was credited to $0 it costs $5/each, which is a steal with lots of fruit and smoothies and pudding and some pastries and beverages. I upgraded to the full buffet for $10 more, which includes omelettes, waffles, and fresh made quesadillas at an outdoor grill, which were AMAZING.

Westin advertises 2 hot tubs, we couldn't find the 2nd one, maybe it is in the spa? The main pool, which winds on forever, was the perfect temperature. The pool/cabana area restaurant was excellent, we ate there both days, enjoying a range of poke bowls and beef and shrimp burgers. Quick service and surprisingly affordable (well under $20 for entrees, closer to $10) for full portions. And they do a nice job of keeping a full ice bucket at your cabana all day long.

The property is under 10 minutes by foot to the Marina area with lots of shops and restaurants, and a $10 uber to the Malecon area beyond the port with tons more shops, clubs, and restaurants, and beachside entertainment.

The beach itself is ok. Not very wide, but clean and the water is warm of course!

Our second time to this Resort. They continue to make upgrades to the hotel guest rooms. Nice to see. The morning breakfast is wonderful, with many options.
Our biggest complaint this year is the increased number of iguanas, two in 2023, eight in 2024, not just near the pool, but actually climbing in and out of the pool. When we tried to bring this to the Managers attention we were told the iguanas were here before the hotel/people were. Completely ignoring our concerns about sanitary conditions and safety. We witnessed guests and the outdoor bartender feeding fruit and fruit scraps to the iguanas daily. We saw two iguanas copulating in the hot tub, sending guests squealing. It seems they stay up in the palm tree until it's time to eat. My husband and I have been to other Marriott owned hotels with pools and they post signs asking guests not to feed the animals.
It would seem these creatures could be relocated to a distant area keeping the water and the guests safe and happy.
We are looking for a different hotel for next winter unless we learn there are new policies in place.

This was my annual trip to Puerto Vallarta and stay at the Westin. There were a few issues along the way like a shower drain that was backing up and some room renovations that were being done a few floors directly above me.

I was surprised that the Westin did not have listed on the Marriot site that there was construction going on and it got very loud sometimes in my room The shower drain issue was resolved very quickly. One my issue with the Westin is some of the little things. In the shower there is no soap holder. There is body wash, shampoo and a conditioner bottle attached to the wall, but not everybody wants to use your products. I know Marriott/Westin is changing to an all inclusive but sometimes the most simplest things can make your guests stay better. I had to wedge a towel into the shower wall sidebar to hold my bar of soap.

My hotel rate came with a breakfast at the El Palmer restaurant at the Westin. It is definitely worth the money. A wide choice of freshly made foods and a very attentive and friendly staff.

Over the years I have found the real value of the Westin is it's employees. No matter who you talked you felt taken care of. A big thank you to the front desk staff Ruben and Christopher for taking care of any issues I had when I was there.
