I am SO glad and grateful to have selected Vallarta Natours for my whale-watching adventure. It was everything that I had hoped for and more, and has been the highlight of all of the time that I have spent in Mexico.
I was not looking for one of those massive boats filled with drunk tourists who scream and clap every time they chase a whale down. That's not how any form of nature-watching works. I wanted to watch happy whales, without disturbing them, and to learn more about them.
Thalia's knowledge about wildlife and whales generally is impressive, but her knowledge about these specific whales In this specific location makes this trip really special. I thought I'd see a couple if whales from afar. What I did not expect is to have whale families cavorting around us, playing, relaxed, and choosing to come close to show off and try to spray us as they "people-watched." I did not expect to learn so much, and to have the opportunity to ask whatever questions came to mind among such a small group. I did not expect to be able to listen to the amazing sounds of whales below us with a hydrophone, and to learn about the mechanics and social behavior associated with the singing.
I also learned about how not all whale-watching boats are in fact licensed to do whale-watching. (Natours is licensed and responsible )
Everything about Thalia and Angel the captain was gracious and thoughtful. Thalia explained everything in both English and Spanish. We were free to stay in the boat cockpit, climb up onto the observation deck, or walk out onto the deck and bow. It was more like going out with friends than going on a "tourist" tour. I highly recommend the experience!
