Booked at the last minute, the Altnaharra Hotel was a fantastic retreat - a charming building, run by Alan and Cami who were hospitable and helpful throughout our 2 night stay. The hotel is a period lodge, full of character and charm, while the dining area has been recently renovated and now has a fresh and modern feel that nevertheless stays in keeping with the main hotel. The food was superb - concentrating on fresh, local fare and was excellent value.

We were staying at the local B and B in Altnaharra, and the Altnaharra Hotel was the only choice for dining within 20 miles. It was nice to be able to walk to the hotel. We ate in the bar, and it was very crowded - possibly because there are no other options in the area. I found the food overpriced, but after a day of driving on the NC 500 roads, it was fine.

We stayed for a night on a tour of the north west and discovered a little gem. Our room was large, quiet and very comfortable. The restaurant food was absolutely delicious. I had a very fresh hake dish, my husband a duck dish, well presented. At breakfast I enjoyed haddock and husband had an epic full Scottish breakfast. We walked to a Loch nearby. Recommended.

We stayed in the hotel for four nights and the whole team in the hotel (Cami, Dawn,Petra and the chef) made the stay very enjoyable. Cami, the owner worked hard to keep all guests happy. The food was consistently excellent and freshly prepared. The fresh fruit salad at breakfast and roast beef sandwich for lunch were particularly noteworthy. Definitely worth a visit.

Wow what a lucky find. We were a group of 10 on the NC500 tour and because we booked relatively late had to come off the beaten track to find a hotel that could accommodate 6 rooms. The hotel is as described a 3 star but the service, food , wine list was a boutique 5 star experience!! It’s an international team mixed with some of the locals for additional support. The owner was amazing and very accommodating with all our requests and all I can say is we weren’t the quietest group (sorry about that!). We would highly recommend to anyone to make this slight detour off the route to experience the friendly excellent food and service of this hidden gem!! James and crew
