This hotel left us gobsmacked. The owners are doing an amazing job of renovating the complete hotel without causing disruption to guests. The rooms are easily five star quality with linen of the highest standard. No expense has been spared to make this a luxurious hotel without losing its wonderful character.
We had dinner while staying there and the meal was also of a very high standard.
I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

The reason I am reluctant to sing the praises of this hotel is because it's one of those places, when you find it you want to keep it secret so you can have it all to yourself. I have stayed here once before and am planning my next trip. The room was gorgeous - newly renovated, luxury bedding, excellent facilities, room so beautifully and tastefully decorated to a very high standard. Car park to the rear. We ate dinner and breakfast in the hotel (not included in the room price) although there are other eateries in the town within easy walking distance. Food was delicious and satisfying. All the staff were so friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere was relaxed. For an overnight stay I can't fault The Black Bull, I'm just hoping that it doesn't become so popular that I can't get a room on my next visit to Scotland.

9 ladies out on a hen do so we booked the black bull for our dinner , we booked for 6.30 , our starters arrived at 7.45 the service was terrible we where in a room were the ceiling was all damp and looked like it was going to come down , which is not a good look for a restaurant, finally our mains came 3 steaks were cold the butter was still hard and never melted so we sent them back , the 2nd time they were still cold , all the food wasn’t hot , it all looked nice but unfortunately just cold so we got a reduction on the bill . All I had to eat was a little basket of chips, , the lodge we stayed in was lovely and Lauder and the people are lovely it was just such a disappointing meal on a special nite for a lovely lady , I would never recommend this place to anyone

We stayed for four nights in a beautiful room that had been recently remodeled, everything was just perfect. The bed was very comfortable and the large room was tastefully decorated. The other rooms were equally as nice and decorated differently.
We had breakfast and dinner every day of our stay at the Black Bull as it was really good food, definitely no complaints from us and kudos to the chef there, the pot pies were amazing.
We chose to stay in Lauder as the Festival was on in Edinburgh and it was a great place to base ourselves visiting Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling and the beautiful local surrounding towns.
Last but not least our hosts were absolutely lovely and went out of their way to help us and make us feel welcome. We had booked tickets to the Edinburgh Tattoo on the first night of our stay and they were very helpful giving us advice on the best way to get there. Overall a fabulous stay and I would definitely recommend staying here and of course we would love to visit again. Loved meeting Glen the fourteen year old pub dog, she is very sweet. GJ & VJ
