We stayed at Lighthouse Point for one week in early June. The check in process was fine. We packed pool bags as carryons since we knew we could not check in until 3:00. The pool and beach were super nice. The room was comfortable but damp (which may be just a part of being on a humid island). The food was good. We enjoyed almost each meal. I liked Irie's the best since there were healthy yet yummy food choices. At times, specific food items may run out so if you are someone that would get upset about this, you may not want to stay at this resort. I felt like there were other options and I'm generally flexible so it wasn't a problem. The best part of the trip were the activities team (especially KJ, Luk, Page and Javan) who were super fun and kept my three kids entertained. If we return, it will be because of these wonderful people, who made each and every day a truly fun family vacation. Overall, we had a great time.

We stayed here for one night while we waited for our room at the resort next door. Check in was quick and the lobby is very comfortable and welcoming. Our room was a nice size, 60477, the bathroom spacious. My only complaint was the tub backed up and slow to drain. Our blow dryer didn't work but house keeping was quick to bring another. The king size bed, very comfortable. The resort is kept very clean and everything you need is available for you, even a liquor store. They have music playing at restaurants, very nice. Nice place to stay in Freeport.

We had a great time at the Grand Lucayan. My wife and I (black-age 60) went on a Grand Celebration cruise and 6 night stay package June 1-June 9.2016. The weather was sunny, the pool water refreshingly cool to warm, and the ocean waters were warm and clear. We plan to return to the Grand Lucayan. We flew into the West Palm Beach airport and took the Supershuttle ($13/person)(running every 30 minutes that time of day) to the ship at about noon. We made prior arrangements to pick-up our boarding passes at the ship instead of at the Fort Lauderdale welcome center. We loved the bed, the Cirque de Soleil balance artist at the floor shows, and the Casino on the Grand Celebration. We hated the Treasure Bay Casino at the resort-nobody won and no one was playing even at night. We do not agree with the many negative reviews of the ship and the resort. There were lines getting on the ship and checking into the resort and going back to the ship but we cleared both in about 30-40 minutes at each site. A lot of paper and staff appear to be involved-maybe it’s to keep jobs for the locals. We have experienced similar wait times at other resorts in other places. Both the ship and the resort had a far more racially diverse crowd than we have seen many places. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting and talking with the people there. The guests from cold weather places were truly enjoyable. The resort was not crowded most days we were there. On the day we left the resort it got a little more crowded with day trippers because there were two Carnival ships (Carnival Ecstasy and Carnival Freedom) in port at the same time as the Grand Celebration. Still there were chairs and shade available even then. We stayed in a six floor oceanview room at Breakers Cay (after complaining about the second floor and being moved in ten minutes by a bellhop with new keys) and had a stunning view of the resort and ocean. The room was large (400 sq. ft.) with a large balcony and very comfortable beds and 59 channel TV. Breakers Cay is built so that the ocean view room balconies are in the shade from early afternoon to sunset. We loved sitting out on the balcony in the afternoon and at all times of the night. We loved leaving the sliding glass doors open and hearing the ocean and feeling the breezes at night.

The resort is beautiful and has many palm and other trees which provide ample shade during the day for those wanting it like us, especially at the Breakers Cay pools. You can even pull your chair onto the grass under the trees for more shade. We do not agree with the criticism about wait times to get into rooms at the resort. Most U.S. hotels do not allow guests to check in before mid-afternoon either. We simply went across the street to the straw market area to shop and eat while waiting for the room. Internet service at the resort was free. I was able to access my email and read books on my Nook in the room and at the pool area every day. We paid for all-inclusive. It was a good deal for us. The food was good. I am diabetic so we drank no alcohol on the trip. Diet Coke and water were included in the plan (there was unsweet tea and water on the ship). We also bought with us powdered Lipton and Snapple diet tea packages to mix with water. We ate at China Beach twice: large portions, and great food. We ate spicy chicken (eye running hot but you cannot stop eating), seafood and vegetable spring rolls (awesome), stir fried conch & shrimp, and sweet & sour chicken. If you have all-inclusive, try something in every category each meal. Churchill had good food and great atmosphere. We had beef tenderloin and grouper there. We loved the Plantation Café (near the Breakers Cay entrance) for breakfast sandwiches, sugar free sweets, coffee, and late night snacks on the all-inclusive plan. On Sunday evening while walking about after dinner, we ran into a Seventh Day Adventist Church musical benefit program for a local school at the convention center. We missed worship services Sunday morning but joyously worshipped God that night.

TIP TO DAYTRIPPERS: There are large indoor changing areas with restrooms, lockers (bring our own locks) and showers inside the Plantation Café shop. Most day trippers do not seem to know about or use this area, opting instead to use and change in the very small pool restroom area.

We also ate at several restaurants across the street in the marketplace. We ate lobster/shrimp sir fry and chicken kabobs at Le Med; jerk chicken at After Dark; conch/shrimp pasta and chicken fajitas at Agave. We ate breakfast as Zorbas. The food at all these places was good and the prices were at resort rates ($60) for two people for most meals except breakfast. We also enjoyed free live band music and singing on Friday and Saturday nights at 8 p.m. at the marketplace outdoor stage area after eating. We bought lots of souvenirs for us and others at the straw market on our several trips there. The prices were not as negotiable there as we have experienced at the many Mexican resorts we have visited but we had fun anyway. By the way, there is a small souvenir shop (cash and credit card accepted) next to the Plantation Café at the resort. Souvenir prices are cheaper at the resort souvenir shop than the straw market on some items and about the same as the straw market on others. We bought souvenirs there too. You can also buy snacks, drinks, sunscreen, and personal items at the resort souvenir shop too. Day trippers and resorts guests are both welcome there. Finally, the best souvenir deal was outside the port building when we were leaving: $5 shirts (we bought 4).

We purchased a day pass to the resort when we were in Freeport during our cruise. It is a very beautiful resort and a beach to match. Great value for us getting to use the pools, beach chairs, umbrellas, etc for the day. Staff was friendly and helpful. It was also very clean and everyone was so nice. It's across the street from the Marketplace and was easy to get to from the port. It cost us $30 round trip for the 3 of us.

We choose this hotel in Freeport because of it's convenient location, close to Unexso pier (we are dedicated scuba divers, and Unexso shark experience in Freeport is a first class option). So, all the premises look a little bit tired, but the beach and the pool are amazing and really well appointed. As I heard, the hotel could be dismissed or refurbished by new owner in a few time (as the previous hotel in same location, demolished and rebuilt many years ago). Rooms are conveniently huge, furniture old and tired. The bathroom had a bath tube instead of a shower, and plastic curtain! We had marina view, which is great for sunset!! Big and comfortable balcony! Breakfast was served at Willy Broadleaf restaurant, the only one we enjoyed at the hotel. I rate it convenient too. You'll find a convenience store and a deli cafe' inside the premises. We have been satisfied with our choice.

Room tip: I recommend marina view in Breakers Cay Tower: nice sunsets!!!
