The resort was beautiful. Our room was cleaned and fully stocked with beverages. Our view from our room had an overview of the ocean. The ocean/beachfront was “red flagged” the whole time we were there, meaning we couldn’t swim in the ocean due to the wind, but that is far beyond the resorts fault. There pool and pool bar was amazing as well. I felt they did a great job of supplying unique nightlife shows every night, each night being slightly different. There were multiple choices for eating, and even though a couple buffets, I felt there was a lot of choices and high quality food. My only problem was that much of the staff were pretty rude, in their defense I watched multiple vacationers treat the staff members very poorly, but yet some of us didn’t and they were so very very rude and short and almost made me feel bad to ask for anything. I also felt that communication was lacking between staff members and those staying in terms of what options were available. And much of the things provided were very expensive, in the spa they said a couples massage would be 560 dollars. Yet, the quality of food and drinks provided definitely made the all inclusive price well worth it.

Best value for your money! Do not listen to the negative reviews, it was an unforgettable vacation and well worth it!

Positives
- Riu is a 5 minute walk to Atlantis, it is free after 6 pm. The best part of Atlantis is the Aquarium. If you want the ride package it is $150 US. Not worth it for that price.
- 15 minute taxi to downtown Nassau for a bargain shopping experience, lower prices than Atlantis.
- Visit Stuart Cove’s for amazing diving and snorkeling adventures with Sharks! Well worth the money spent for an excursion.
Room:
* Request the 15th floor for the best ocean view
* Room was very clean, tidy, and provide all the essentials (blow dryer, shampoo, lotion, conditioner, 4 bath towels daily)
Food:
* jerk chicken by the beach is fantastic, so yummy!
* Buffet was excellent! For breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Better than the a la carte. No reservation system but it did not bother us as the buffet had a huge tasty selection including fish, turkey, sushi, fajita, and healthy options.
Entertainment:
*Calypso bar is open 24/7 with nightly entertainment including Michael Jackson dancing, karaoke night, every night is something different.

Negatives:
- if you book in September/October, there is a no swimming red flag that is up everyday to prevent people from swimming in the ocean. Waves are as High as 10 feet, be careful! Extremely dangerous waves
- There are beach vendors that try to sell you items, just politely decline they don’t bother you much after that.
- There is a slight sewage smell but it’s not enough to bother anyone, no one complained about it.
- No night swimming
- One elevator to the 15th floor

Overall: I would come back to this Riu, it was the most amazing vacation. Absolutely loved it!

Room tip: 15th floor has the best view

CONS (BUT NOT REALLY)

Yes yes yes there is a "distinct" sewage smell when you get off the elevator but after a few days you don't really pay attention to it (disappears once you take a few steps towards the restaurants and/or beach).

Yes yes yes there were plenty of beach vendors on the beach (just say no and keep your head down). Yes it sucked that for 3/4 days we were there, there was tons of what I can presume are cruise ship tourists by the boat load on the beach but again out of sigh out of mind. When in the Carribean, you have to know how to do things the West-Indian way(i.e. chase down the "lifeguard" guy and tip him a bit each day and he'll locate you a couple chairs and put down an umbrella.

Yes yes yes the rooms were musty but how often are you really in the room??? It was breathable, liveable and sleepable so I can't really complain.

pros

you get way more value (for your $$) here than at atlantis.

buffet food for breakfast, lunch and dinner was excellent with plenty of selection.

the jerk hut was also solid for some chicken and side meals.

the only a la carte we ate at was the steak restaurant and it was decent (not amazing but not crappy either). we didn't chance the indian or japanese (because we're brown and from toronto).

the beach (aside from the points mentioned above) is one of the top beaches you will find in the caribbean (and we've been to a lot). perfect powdery white sand and crystal blue water.

the rooms and hotel in general (lobby) were recently renovated and everything looks crips, clean and immaculate.

the service (again lower your expectations at this is not mexico) was also solid.everyone from the front desk to the servers at the restaurants were pretty solid and offered quick efficient service (no they didn't do handstands but again...temper expectations).

all in all for the price you get at the riu for a weekend getaway with the wifey you can't really go wrong!!!

Room tip: Higher Rooms have the Ocean View

The Good- Excellent staff, very friendly and helpful. Super shout out to: Viviana, Rashad and Christoph. They were awesome. Oceanfront Suites were very nice, beautiful views, nice setup, except be aware they only have 1 king size bed, there is no option for 2 Queens. A little awkward when traveling with a friend, and have to share a bed. Food was always good at the Buffet. Jerk Chicken place outside was the absolute best! Location was great, pools were great, and Atlantis was so close.
The Bad - drinks came in small cups, like the size of a Dixie cup. Bring your own cups! Restaurants do not take reservations, which was very annoying. There was no method to their madness at the restaurants, one place said you could put your name in, and another place said no. Food was inconsistent at the restaurants. Japanese place was not good. Krystal was great for half of our party, and not so great for the other half. Riu could use improvement for their restaurant reservation system, and moving people along quicker.
The Ugly - I don't mean to bash this place because we had an amazing vacation, BUT the SMELL in this hotel was at times unbearable. The 3rd floor smelled like bleach and pinesol the entire vacation. Our room smelled like bleach upon arrival, and then we asked our cleaning lady to stop using any cleaning chemicals, and she did, and it was better but left us with a mildew/mold smell. I wonder if they are trying desperately to mask the smell of the mildew and mold. The lobby had an odor as well, but not as bad as our floor.
Lastly, the AC is weak. You can not adjust the setting in your rooms, it is at a constant 72 degrees F, but felt like 80.
This hotel has so much potential! If you can get a good deal to go there, you should do it. They have great staff, location, and rooms but need to get rid of the smell, allow restaurant reservations, and give bigger cups at the bar.

Recently went to the Hotel with a group of 50 for a work incentive that included couples.

Hotel was generally very clean and staff were attentive. Bar Staff by the pool and in main sports bar were great fun and got the party going.

Food was average and very hot and miss. We had one really nice lunch in the main restaurant and then a bit so nice breakfast.

Main issue was the stench when you walked into reception, however this is definitely more of a party hotel so maybe some things like this to be expected.

It is a very close beach or road walk to Atlantis which is great and the beach is very nice, although no swimming the whole time we were there due to the weather and riptides.

Doors and windows double glazed so keeps the noise to a minimum and mini bar optics are amazing.

Would make a great destination for a cheap bachelor or bachelorette party.

Dear Darren,

Thank you for choosing RIU Hotels & Resorts and taking the time to evaluate our recently refurbished hotel.

While we appreciate learning of the positive highlights from your visit like our service, the cleanliness and our location, we are very sorry to learn that we were not able to meet your taste at all with our wide selection of exquisitely presented dishes which are prepared daily with the utmost care and using fresh ingredients.

The mentioned sewer smell is well known in the whole resort area of Paradise Island and occasionally occurs, depending on the wind and climate. It comes from the neighboring Atlantis Lagoon and Paradise Lake due the increase of decomposing organic matter, mainly algae. We regret the impact this had on your stay.

The feedback we receive from our valued guests, like you, enables us to target problem areas. We welcome any opportunity to improve.

It is our sincerest hope that you will give us a chance to serve you again in the future.

With our best wishes we remain,

Hotel Riu Palace Paradise Island
