We have vacationed on St. John many times, but this is the first time we have stayed on this side of the island. The home is literally minutes from Cruz Bay (in contrast to the Peter Bay area we normally stay-- which is quite a drive). This was super convenient for early morning jaunts to the dock for BVI excursions and the late-evening trips to Starfish Market. The views here were spectacular and you would never know less than a year ago two Cat 5 hurricanes passed over this area! We saw no signs of damage to this property nor its immediate surroundings!
The AC in the bedrooms was amazing (I may go as far as to say intense haha)- and the bathrooms for each were also air conditioned. The living room/kitchen area was kept cool by the breeze flowing through screened doors and windows, but in late afternoon it did tend to get a bit warm.
The home was fully equipped with anything you could need for a vacation-- from beach chairs and coolers, to pool floats and a grill and any kitchen appliance you could ever need... it was one of the better stocked homes we have stayed. Every detail was well-thought out and the furnishings were lovely! The bar and mini fridge on the pool deck were a great addition! Of note, the hot tub was not in service during our stay. Thankfully, we aren't really hot tub people, but this was not previously disclosed and all the photos showed it filled with water. The agent told us "we do not advertise use of the hot tub," but really, they should mention it is not available for use (or out of order, or whatever). The pool was fantastic and well lit for nighttime use! There were several pairs (4 pairs we found) of comfortable pool deck chairs to layout as well-- seems like many of the larger villas lack these. There was also great patio furniture for the shade-seekers.
We could comfortably park our 2 rental jeeps in the driveway with space to turn around at least one of them, though backing up the driveway was super easy as well.
The beach below required a drive, but it was short and a lovely place to snorkel! Its not the white sandy beach like those on the north shores (instead a bit rocky so bring shoes), but it was still stunning and enjoyable!
Phone service (AT&T) and Wifi (Casa del Sol has its own) were intermittent here-- but this is the case everywhere on St. John post hurricanes last year. In the main part of the villa (living room/kitchen) we almost always had phone service, but in the bedrooms it was very spotty. But fortunately this side of the island uses the US tours, whereas on the north side you often hit the BVI tours and incur internationally charges. Casa del Sol does have a working landline if needed.
Not that television is something desired on this type of vacation, but for reference, the living room and each of the 4 bedrooms had TVs with somewhat spotty cable service. The home is equipped with lots of movies (DVDs) and books to read as well, should you find yourself bored on a rainy day.
We absolutely loved this villa and look forward to being able to return with family and friends again!
