Owner description: Rheilffordd Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake Railway) offers a delightful 9 mile return journey alongside Bala Lake, through the beautiful Snowdonia National Park. Our 2ft narrow gauge steam trains give excellent views of the lake amid its surrounding pastoral and woodland scenery, and of the nearby mountains, Arenig Fawr, Aran Benllyn and Aran Fawddwy. The railway provides an ideal centrepiece for a day’s visit to Bala Lake. The round trip of 1 hour can be broken at any of the stations to enjoy other activities - a pleasant 10 minutes walk into Bala town for shopping or merely browsing. There is access to the lake shore at Llangower station for swimming, fishing or simply lazing by the waterside.

Great experience on the little train but was damped by the driving rain. On the way we sat in the open sided carriages and were soaked and very cold by the time we got to the last station.

On the way back we sat in the enclosed carriages and had a chance to dry out and was a much more pleasant experience.

We were over charged initially but realised and managed to get a refund when we got to the last station.

Thank Melissa D

A delightful way to experience Bala Lake/Llyne Tegid. This excellent narrow gauge railway is superb, and worth taking in both directions. Time it to have lunch at the fantastic Llanuwchllyn Station Café, where the station has a lot more to offer than the Bala end. There are superb walks from either end up into the hills - to Encil y Coed from Bala, or along the Crib Aran / Aran Ridge from Llanuwchllyn. If you're really into your stem, take a good look around the engine sheds at Llanuwchllyn too.

Had a lovely time on the Bala steam train and it's not over priced.
Lots of rail enthusiasts are involved in keeping the train and track in good order for visitors to enjoy.
Best to catch the train in Llanuwchllyn to Bala and then back to the station again. There is not a great deal to see in Bala but enough to keep you amused for an hour or so.
