A personal recommendation from a several-times visitor brought us to this wonderful accommodation. The location right on the beach is superb; the cottages are of the highest standard, from the period architecture and ginger-bread trim to the furnishings and appliances, and very well maintained. We’ve never found self-catering accommodation so well supplied with cooking utensils, serving and dining dishes, not to mention full-sized fridge, full-sized gas cooker, electric kettle and coffee maker and toaster. We had breakfast and dinner on our lovely porch, to the sound of the waves and crickets. All of the furniture was of a very high quality, including the bed with a firm mattress – probably intended for someone a bit taller than myself who had to reach it with a leap each night.

All needs are provided for: an internet cabin with computers and printers, a library of books left by previous travelers (mostly in English but some French and German and also Swedish and Polish), and a laundry room with washer and dryer; a small shop for those last-minute requirements like jam and bottled water. We availed of a welcoming food basket which supplied breakfast and dinner for a couple of days. A 15-minute walk brings you to a well-stocked supermarket.
But all the ‘things’ cannot compare to the people, the friendliness and care showered on us by all the staff. St Lucians are friendly, courteous, gracious, helpful, ready to interact; at Villa Beach Cottages they ensure that you are always happy and comfortable. The owner-manager, Colin Hunte, welcomed us personally and gave us the history of the Cottages and of his plantation estate, La Dauphine, near Soufriere. Equally important were the drivers who drove us to Castries, Rodney Bay and Pigeon Island, especially Claudius who took us for a day trip to the volcano and places in between, the Botanical Gardens, Diamond Waterfall, town of Soufrière and scenic restaurants such as the Ladera Resort with a vista of both Gros and Petit Piton. We gained so much from Claudius, including an understanding of local history, botany and agriculture. He also brought us to the Cottages’ sister accommodation, the plantation estate of La Dauphine. Visitors can stay in the renovated Victorian bungalow with its three small bedrooms and gorgeous swimming pool (and also rent the smaller bungalow, Chateau Lafit) on a working plantation, surrounded by rain forest. Colin grows also cocoa; Claudius showed us the pods, and how the beans are fermented and dried in traditional long, wide drawers (the process cannot be mechanized).
You will decide the best way for getting around. Villa Beach Cottages rents out its own cars which works for some people – be aware, however, that the roads around the island are narrow, full of steep hair-pin bends. Driving is on the left (a legacy of the British), with roundabouts. Public transport is a limited possibility – from Villa Beach to the town of Castries or the shopping and tourist center of Rodney Bay – but does not go to many tourist destinations. The customary transport for tourists is by taxi – this is quite pricey ($30 US return trip from Villa Beach Cottages to Castries – takes about 20 minutes), with a generous tip to be added. But you don’t come to St Lucia for a budget holiday - you will want to support the local economy. Since Chiquita Banana completely undermined the St Lucian agricultural trade, the country is entirely dependent on tourism. The taxi driver makes his or her annual living during the 6-month tourist season.

Villa Beach will organize drivers to bring you to restaurants, beaches and town, as well as day excursions like ours to Soufrière. (They also organize a driver to transport you from the International Airport, 1 hour 45 minutes away, to the Cottages _ $90 US for 2 people, one way.) Apart from restaurants and shops (and the trips you can charge to Villa Beach Cottages) you will pay cash. Most things are priced in US dollars (we found we ran out very soon) or in “EC” = East Caribbean Dollars. We found we needed to keep a good supply of cash.
The beach by the Cottages is great but I was attracted by the even calmer waters and snorkeling at the beach on the Caribbean side of Pigeon Island, about 25-minute drive from Villa Beach. Pigeon Island is a National Landmark, the military site from which the British and the French alternatively defended their possession of the island from 1763 to 1861. Pigeon Island is an exception to the rule that all beaches on St Lucia are open to the public. You pay an entrance fee to visit the Landmark with its military ruins and scenic viewpoints; this allows you to access the little beaches. You can pay an extra fee for beach loungers; there are rest rooms and changing rooms. There are two restaurants on Pigeon Island, making a day-long stay there very feasible.
We can only add to the chorus – Villa Beach Cottages is the best place to stay!

My now wife and I were searching for a place that met our needs and lifestyle when planning a getaway wedding down south. We stumbled upon Villa Beach Cottages and it was a complete stroke of luck.

From the get-go, they did everything to ensure that we had the wedding of our dreams. We communicated with Susan, the hotel's wedding planner through email, and all arrangements were made ahead of time.

We arrived on St. Lucia on a Saturday afternoon, and were greeted at the airport by Austin, who was one of the friendliest person we've ever met. He drove us to the hotel in the rental car that was a part of our package.

Our room was a 2nd floor room, with amazing views of the beach. The staff had decorated our room with a welcome message made of flowers on the bed. It was beautiful.

On Monday, the day of our wedding, Austin once again drove us into Castries to complete the paperwork We were in and out of the lawyers office in a matte of minutes, and had little to worry about the rest of the day. We relaxed until the make-up artist that had been arranged by the hotel arrived, and my wife loved her work.

Our ceremony was amazing, and both the officiant, and the photographer who had been arranged by the hotel were consummate professionals, and extremely friendly. After the ceremony was finished, we were given a wedding cake, champagne, and glasses with our names and date of our wedding, an extremely thoughtful surprise.

We finished our evening with a fantastic meal in our room, once again, organized by the amazing staff.

I would highly recommend staying at Villa Beach Cottages, and would recommend the adventure package.

Wonderful! We researched many condos and resorts and saw the reviews for this place and are so happy we chose to stay there. We stayed in a deluxe 2 bedroom cottage on the first floor right next to the pool. Perfect location. We all loved swimming every day in the ocean which was just steps away from our patio and then hitting the pool and hot tub. The only drawback was that we were so happy there we didn't explore much of the island, It had a different feel than most places we have ever stayed. We actualy met several people and attended a wedding of total strangers on property. Definitely memories for a lifetime. We rented a car at the airport but learned we could have arranged transportation to the resort through the cottages and then rented a car. I would suggest this option. A car comes in handy for local trips but they can arrange transportation also and it is highly suggested for many day trips due to the road conditions. We heard about people who have stayed there multiple times and even met a couple that was on their fifth trip. It says something about a place when people come back here year after year. We are already planning.

The Island of St. Lucia is an enchanted place and Villa Beach Cottages is a perfect place to experience the island. Located a few miles from the capital of Castries, the hotel offers easy access to the town, but also an escape from the hustle bustle. The facility is beautiful. I loved the spaciousness of the rooms, the beautiful decor, the pool, and the proximity to the beach. You can hear the ocean from the room. You can get a very reasonable massage by the ocean. Colin, the owner, takes time to familiarize each guest with the island's attractions. He is engaging and quickly gets to know the types of sites and activities you want. I will definitely return to St. Lucia and the Villa Beach Cottages.

Room Tip: All rooms have an ocean view. We stayed on the first floor which gave us easy access to both the pool and beach.
