We spent our honeymoon at Sandals Halcyon Beach Resort in St. Lucia...AMAZING!! Sandals set the bar extremely high as it is likely nothing else can compare! Romantic, beautiful, quiet, excellent customer service are all descriptions that come to mind. When they say all-inclusive, they REALLY mean ALL-INCLUSIVE! We enjoyed excellent food and drinks, fun water sports including scuba diving (yes, included!!), paddle boards, kayaking, etc. We would definitely go back and highly recommend this Sandals location to others!

Room Tip: Club level room! We enjoyed the additional excellent customer service and fully stocked bar in the room! We loved balcony soaking tub!

I sent this letter by email to the general manager of the Halcyon about two weeks after my wife and I returned home I was given the email address by staff at the Halcyon unfortunately Mr Christopher Elliot has failed to respond so I had attached my letter below.

My wife and I have recently returned from a 14 night stay at the Halcyon and we feel that we must bring to your attention some of the issues
we have, we purchased the holiday in the belief it was a 5 star luxury all inclusive resort in the same mould as many others we have stayed at around the world.

Sadly this is not the case as we understand from staff members that the buildings are about 40 years old and were purchased from a British company.

This would account for the old style of the property and while I agree that the grounds look good with well established gardens,
the rooms need a major overhaul to bring them into the 21st century,
The furniture is worn and needs replacing drawers are stiff to open at least in our room (305) also in the bathroom the handbasin was about three foot long by eighteen inches wide with no plug so a quick wash was not easy nor indeed was a shave.

The room was attended every day the bed made and the towels replaced it was given a quick brush out with a broom but when walking about without shoes you could feel grit under you feet and the room would benefit from a regular vacuuming, Under the bed and the chest of draws and behind the large chair in the corner you could see the dust also on top of the dressing table.

Twice during our stay we had to ask for the mini bar to be re-stocked.

Sandals say “ The closer you look at what we include the better we look “ well at the Halcyon the food is a low standard certainly not the gourmet dinning we were led to believe it would be, it is very average, In the Bayside restaurant where breakfast and lunch were served buffet style it was open on three sides this allowed the bird life to have free range over the uncovered food, I often saw bird droppings on chairs and birds pecking at serving spoons by the hot plates.

The food at Kelly’s Dockside was ok we had one good meal the second was so poor we complained and were asked if we would return and let them try again which we did and it was better.

Kimonos was in our opinion the best of the restaurants but even they had issues,The second time we ate there I asked for extra shrimp but was told that the three I had been given were plenty.

In the fourteen days we stayed at Halcyon we never did fined seven bars,The main bar is the Irie, the Mirage bar as far as we could tell was only open when the room itself was used for an event, The two pool bars and the bistro were all closed in the evening maybe the bar in Kelly’s could be considered but that closed at 9:30, So in the evening the only bar to use is the Irie which is right next to Mirage in front of which they have the live music and shows,The sound level from this makes it very difficult to have a quiet drink and talk at a near normal level and not shout, there is also little under cover seating and as it rained most days we were there we found ourselves back in our room by 10:30.

Maybe opening the bistro bar in the evening would give people a quieter option for a drink instead of just opening at 10:30 for late night food.

This is the only all-inclusive hotel/resort that I have stayed at where I could not get a burger or a plate of chips any time of the day from any bar.

Ice cream a holiday staple is only available from the bistro during the day and in small portions.

I must say that most of the staff are exceptional and we found most of the guests to be lovely,we made some very good friends.

If the Sandals management were to take a long hard look they could not fail to agree that the Halcyon Beach Resort is only a three and a half star at most .

This holiday cost my wife and I in excess of £8500 and we spoke to other people in the same type of accommodation who paid £2000 less

We have recently returned from the Halcyon Beach Resort, we were not sure what to expect but have been won over by this tranquil gem. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming. As there is a no tip policy you don’t feel a fake atmosphere. The reception area is pleasant and airy, special thanks to Khadijah and Garfield both always had a smile and a wave and were happy to help with any questions. Our room was pleasant but needed a little updating (we have been advised that Therese rooms are to be renovated from July to November this year). There is a fridge which is refilled with juice, soft drinks, red & white wine, a coffee machine and a kettle. An ironing board/iron and a mini safe. Plenty of towels and daily cleaning. We lounged by the quiet pool (no music or activities). There is a further pool if you want activities. The food is outstanding with a choice of restaurants. Special thanks to Celina at Kelly’s Dockside - you made a great holiday greater. Good choice of drinks served and wonderful fire pits dotted around the property to sit around in the evenings. An on site spa with helpful staff (Patrick, Cyril’s & Miilitina kept us laughing). Leander & Laverne on the L&T desk are there to answer any queries on Sandlals and sweet talk you into your next visit. Lovely beach with loungers. Floats in the sea and lovely warm water. We travelled early June, this is the start of the hurricane season, expect rain, usually over in a flash but can leave you hoping under your umbrella

Can not speak highly enough of this resort. Friendly helpful staff. Gorgeous gardens. Two pools. One is quiet. Lovely food. Could also get the shuttle bus to other sandals hotels in the area. Huge choice of restaurants. I would highly recommend.
