“This is a Great Place - If it is What You are Looking For!”

My wife and I just returned from a 14 night stay in the studio apartment at Point Village, Negril.
We had a wonderful time, but it might not be the place for everyone. I will try and give you information so that you can make a decision if this would be a good fit for you. If you go with the right attitude, I think you will have a wonderful visit.

The closest description I have for our experience was it was a bit like staying at resort cabins that we have stayed at in our lake areas in Canada and northern United States. A little rugged/rustic, but we enjoy those places and therefore enjoyed Apt 205 in Point Village as well!

The room was as pictured. The bed was very comfortable. The 4 poster bed was large and after a day in the sun put us to sleep with ease. The best part of the room was the patio area. When we weren't sleeping we spent almost all of our time on the patio. The view over the water and island was great. I think it will be hard to find an oceanfront room at this price. There were very few bugs, despite the rain so we were able to enjoy early mornings and late evenings out there. The bathroom was very good. The shower worked well, plenty of hot water and the water quality was outstanding. Drinking tap water is not an issue.
The kitchen was small. Only one person at a time. Cooking is a challenge as there was only a hotplate. But that was no issue for us. We used it to fry some eggs and it was fine for that. Betty did warn us when we booked that the fridge is small, and the freezer smaller. But we stopped in Mobay for groceries on the way out and Chris took us to the Hi-Lo two other times. So were managed just fine.
There is a large couch that we never really used. The television has a wide range of channels (over 400) so you can keep up with news from home, or find a movie/show to watch. We didn't use the TV very much, but it might be important for some people.
The wireless internet worked very well. In fact it was faster than the service we have at home.
The major problems with the room were:
the sheets have some holes and stains, the closet door was sticking on the floor, the patio fan is noisy, there are ants in the kitchen and we had a small salamandra(?) in the room.
As I said, these did not bother us, but if they will bother you, then you should explore other options.
The room was clean - not spotless... but perfectly fine for us.
We were given a phone to use for local calls. The room also has information on the local area. Of course having access to the internet means access to tripadvisor and host of information.
The room has an operating safe that allows you to leave your valuables in the room worry free.
There is some night noise that you can occasionally hear from Hedonism, but I think that would bother you only if you are a light sleeper.
Christopher and Betty also provide water toys - snorkel gear, life jackets, floaties, fishing rod, etc. No need to haul any of that down.

This was our first non all-inclusive experience so I was a bit worried about the booking process. There was not a lot of communication until a few weeks before our arrival. I did not need to worry. Christopher and Betty coordinated our airport transfer. We used Verol Thompson and he was a very safe driver and very reliable.

This is one of about 18 apartments that Christopher and Betty manage, so they are busy people. But they were very kind and wanted to help ensure we had a great holiday.

Feel free to inbox me if you have any questions about the room or the rental process.

For those that want to read on - I wanted to provide some information on Point Village. When we were researching this trip, I found it hard to find current information. So here are some of things we found and that might help you decide if this is the right place for you.

1. This is a former resort on 14 acres of land. The suites have been purchased and are used by long term residents and as rental places. You will meet both owners and visitors at Point Village.
2. Much of the former resort is no longer used and some building are showing signs of aging.
3. The resort is very quiet. We often had the beach to ourselves. If you like quiet, you will like Point Village.
4. The location was great for us. It allowed us to walk Long Beach (access through Hedonism - keep your eyes down) and get to some action fairly easily. It is about a 10 minute walk to Boardwalk Village where there is a restaurant, shops and a money exchange. It is about 2 mile walk to the start of the busy end of the beach where there is a lot of action.
5. We also walked to Bloody Bay. It is about a mile walk down the highway to access the beach so we only went once. The beach is very nice and would have enjoyed it more if there would have been access through the Grand Lido.
6. There is a gas station with all the basics (including patties) within easy walking distance. Right next to the station is a market with about 30 little shops for a shopping experience.
7. There is excellent snorkeling right at the resort.
8. There is a swimming pool but the hot tub was not operating.
9. There is 24 hour security. We had no issues and felt very safe.

I hope that helps. Feel free to contact me with any questions you have about Point Village.

“Quiet, relaxing, gorgeous view,”

We spent 7 nights here and the property is very well maintained. Quiet location, and the pictures are exactly what the place looks like. Nice sandy beach, good snorkeling, child friendly and yet more adults there than children. Safe place to stay away from noise and hustlers on 7 mile beach, but still close enough to walk to it. Gorgeous sunsets every night from this room.

My wife and I had a beautiful vacation at the studio at Point Village.Complete relaxation and a wonderful experience with the privacy and loveliness of the property. Swimming and snorkelling every day,or lounging on the private beaches and rock pool.Everything is steps away. And one doesn't have to deal with the noise and hustlers on the main Nergril beach. Both managers,Betty and Chris, were terrific to make sure we were happy there.Drove us to town for shopping, and recommending good restaurants close by.
The room was clean and bright with a beautiful view of the sea.And everything worked.Wi-Fi, T.V. ,and kitchen appliances.
This was our 5th trip to Jamaica, and we'll surely return to this place.

“Overwhelming, breathtaking and relaxing”

From the time I saw the studio it exceeded my expectation. At night I couldn't really see the view but the interior was very comfortable and homely. Next morning that is when I could take in the view and really appreciate my surroundings. Betty and Christopher were really welcoming and were always at hand when needed. Nothing disappointed me the location was perfect overlooking the beach I couldn't have asked for anything more what I had was very comforting. Wouldn't stay anywhere else. August 2010 and 2011 I was here and will return again.

# 205 was the perfect spot for us. The photos were right on and the view is spectacular. Beautiful sunsets every night of our 7 night stay. Christopher and Betty were very nice and helpful. There are four different beach areas to the property in addition to a pool where there are outside showers and inside toilets. One beach is clothing optional and next to the Hedonism II resort. (Lots of nudity and music). The next area is like a little cove of a sandy beach with a large sandy area. Area 3 has flat rock outcroppings with 2 carved out tub like areas to soak in which the ocean splashes up into. The last area is a great little cove to snorkel in with a small cave to swim through. Lots of fish to see, even saw a sting ray (no touching!). Birds would fish and little roaming goats even made an appearance on the rocky tops of the opposite side of the cove,
We rented a kayak at the third resort from ours down the beach and went over to the island to snorkel. One of the highlights of our trip. We probably could have swum across but we were dissuaded from doing so by Christopher because of the boat traffic and a recent accident.)
I really appreciated the fact that they provided a cell phone so I didn't have to by a sim card for my phone and pay an activation fee of $25 or more to have a phone. It's a short walk to the gas station to buy minutes for local and international calls at a reasonable price. (You can also get a great, cheap early lunch of a "patti", a little meat pie, delivered fresh every day (except Sunday).
We did an excursion into the mountains that lasted from 7am to 7pm and used the same driver, Verol, that had brought us from the airport. He is very personable, informative, and reasonably priced for the area. I highly recommend him. We felt very safe and he was very accommodating to my photography requests, stopped whenever I asked and even pointed out areas of interest.
Christopher was also very accommodating and seemed to be always available to answer any questions or address any needs we had.
The only downside had nothing to do with the property just being in a tourist area, being approached by so many locals wanting to sell you something. (Always bargain if you do want to buy.)
All in all, We had a very relaxing time and enjoyed our stay in #205.
