My finance and I just got home from a week in puerta plata! We stayed at emotions and had a great week! Very few complaints and most of them were not even about the hotel.

This resort is very clean! Every morning they are out cleaning the pools. They also mop the decks and walk ways ! The rooms were nice. One downfall to our room itself (we stayed in just the basic room) the shower was a standup and the door only covered half way. So each shower the flood did get quite wet.

The food was overall pretty great! The Italian and Mexican restaurants were our favorite! We didn't really care for the dominican restaurant and only went once. The buffet was mostly good, lots of options.
Top 3 highlight of the trip for my fiance was the cappuccinos at the coffee bar, which he frequently visited... like 5x per day! The ladies in there were very friendly and never made him feel like he was drinking too much coffee, which he probably was :)

The staff at Emotions were all amazing! Nearly every person you walk by says hello (in Spanish of course) with a smile! From the guards at the front of the hotel,to the staff greeting at the buffet, everyone was so nice!! Extra special mention for Orlando, hernesto aka skinny boy, Raul and Kenndy from the tiki tiki poolbar! We enjoyed our week so much more because of them!

Few few complaints as I said... but I will make mention of the ones we had.

First of all the music at tiki tiki pool bar. In the evenings hanging out there or during the day, the music was all very repetitive. Spanish of course which was fine, but it would have been nice to have something more up to date and upbeat. After a while you feel as though you're stuck in an elevator . I would have loved to get up and dance but the mood was set very mellow with the slower older Spanish songs!
I even tried speaking to the front and the staff about the music and was told there was not much they could do.

Nothing to do with the hotel itself but the people selling stuff on the beach got a bit much after the first few times. Understandable that those people are trying to make a living but having to tell someone no thank you 5x in a week that you dont want a massage,or your hair braided was frustrating.
Also we booked a fishing excursion with juan on the beach and were left disappointed not once but TWICE after waking up at 6am . As it is not peak season there were not enough people to send out in a boat to fish. Which is fine but being told that (and maybe suggesting something else) instead of getting up and ready would have been nice. We did however get our money back!

Local people do come to the hotel on the weekends and it did get quite busy with lots of kids and families. Mostly at the pools.

Overall, a great experience . We enjoyed the city and the people. We rented a scooter and went into sousa and puerta plata (even though being told it may not be the safest)
We will definately reccomend this hotel and who knows,in the future we may even go back! :)

Upon our arrival (on a Friday morning), we were a bit apprehensive about our resort. There were very few vacationers in attendance, and we thought our trip was going to be a disappointment. Fortunately, this trip became a beautiful trip to remember! The service was impeccable and the resort was well maintained and very clean. Previously, we stayed in a larger all-inclusive, but this resort (although much smaller) ended up being a perfect size for our needs. I loved that there were plenty of chairs on the beach and by the pools. We stayed in the Adult Section of the resort and had easy access (two minutes walks) to everything. Our room was spacious and well stocked with water and towels multiple times a day. The beach was beautiful and the pools am
delightful. The staff is extraordinary, especially the activity leaders, restaurant personnel, housekeeping, and groundskeepers. A special note of thanks goes to Adelfi Mercedes, Heriberto Diaz, Adele Mayerni, and my massage woman (I believe her name began with a "J"! Everyone associated with the buffet staff was wonderful too! Thanks to the resort for making our last evening extra special (I believe Kimberly is the woman from Montreal in guest relations who made this treat happen for us). My only negatives would be with regard to having a "concierge" greet and tour us with the ulterior motive of having us sit through a very long (over two hour) time share presentation. I tuned out after the first half hour. Otherwise, thanks to the staff for treating us so well during our week long stay. Our excursions were both extraordinary (Paradise Island and the city tour), and Rodolpo our Apple representative was wonderful in guiding us through our Puerto Plata experience.

Room Tip: The Adults Only building was very quiet. The Junior Suite was very spacious and clean.

This resort was newly owned since Dec 2017. We went during low season so probably a total of 80 people on resort.

They do keep the rooms and grounds very, very clean. However, washrooms are faulty. Overall i’d give this resort a 3.5:

Service: 3/5
-overall, people weren’t super willing to help. If you’ve been to Mexico, everyone does everything with a smile there
-Jose at Tikka bar was amazing
-Carlos at the buffet
-I must complain the girl at the coffee shop (the one in the morning) she never had a smile on her face. It was so bad my
Mom asked if she was having a bad week or if there was something we could help with.
The one at night is super sweet and remembers our orders

Rooms:
-large
-no view
-toilet seat was smaller than the toilet bowl which is gross
-cleaners didn’t refill our shampoo/water even though we tipped!!!
-the shower is not a good design as the water splashes everywhere (walls and outside floors)
-AC was very cold
-paint used to cover up dirt on windows

Food:
-food was decent, nothing crazy, but the food tastes much better than it looks! Give it a try
-a la cartes were mediocre... italian was the worst
-dominican had the best flavours and it helped that Suzanna was so friendly!
-since we went during low season, the a la cartes weren’t always open
-buffet was nice as they had different things everyday
-supposedly other resorts in the same complex (Be Live) had the same buffet food daily.
-4-5USD popsicles were enjoyable as well
-loved the coffee shop
-mexican was ok, but you would think they would have burritos opposed to chicken wings?
-they are renovating on premis... i presume an asian inspired (sushi) as every all inclusive i’ve been to has one

Pools:
-Good size pools (3) + private spa pool/jaccuzi
-a lot of seating... but we also went during low season.

Beach:
-amazing
-white sand, clean
-no seaweed!!!
-they have an adult area was quiet
-i probably wouldn’t recommend for really young children as the waves were pretty strong

Entertainment:
-Adelphi and Heriberto really made the trip enjoyable- water aerobics to salsa dancing lessons
-DJ Foody played great music
-It was disappointing to find out they have foam parties every other week, and it didn’t land on our week!
-they have outside vendors or weekends and allow locals to come in (finally felt like a fuller resort)
-always had good music
-dancers at the evening show really tried... but weren’t really good on the stage
-fresh sugar cane juice was to die for!

Excursions:
-Visit Teurdy Reyes at Nexxus!! He’s super awesome and he’ll give you a 5-10% discount depending on number of guests and excursion
-Visit to Puerto Plata (49USD pp)
-went to local grocery store, in town to see a church and some landmarks
-visited a jewellery factory where it sells Larimar and Amber
-went to some museum
-cable car ride
-it wasn’t the most exciting excursion, but it’s definitely an eye opener to see locals, how crazy traffic and the stories and agriculture of DR.

Timeshares:
-get 2x 15 mins massage if you participate in their excursion
-10 years for 8995USD+annual fees... not worth it in my opinion.

Spa:
-$80USD for 50 mins deep tissue
-$50USD for 20mins deep tissue
-we bargained $40pp for 2 x 40 minute sessions
-Jessie was good

Pros: beautiful beach, more than 1 pool, 1 of which was large. We ate at the buffet everyday and the food was good. There were other restaurants available for extra $$ which we didn't go to. The room was very clean and the A/C worked great. We were there off season so nothing was crowded. The staff were all friendly to us and seemed to appreciate our business.
Cons: too much trying to sell excursions (we weren't interested-just wanted to lounge by pool or beach everyday.) There was an attempt to sell some type of vacation package-not exactly a time-share but similar, which we also weren't interested in. However, we just said no each time something was offered and weren't bugged anymore. Also, children were allowed to sit at the swim-up bar which we didn't really like, but we still were able to sit there a good deal of the time.
Overall, the pros far outweighed the cons and we would go there again. Enjoyed ourselves tremendously.
