Sunscape curaçao is a very relaxed, calm, tropical atmosphere. We had a beautiful ocean view room, which we paid extra for, and were very pleased. We laid in bed and just looked out at the ocean view, t was beautiful. The resort was very relaxed and calm which was exactly what we were looking for. No drunk people in the pool, no loud night parties, etc. The down side was that there were not any shows at night. Some nights, they had a singer, but not a real show; this was disappointing. The ocean was beautiful, bright blue water and a clean beach. The resort was sectioned off so you could walk out of the boundary of the resort; great for safety, but you couldn't walk down the ocean for a nice walk if you wanted. There was a gym there, but it was so hot inside, that I opted to walk up and down the sidewalk outside of the resort for my exercise. Staff were always very nice and pleasant. They definitely followed the am resorts training by telling every person it was their pleasure to serve them. The down side was the food. The buffet had very limited food selection. The omelets in the morning were cooked using oil and not butter. This gave them a very fake taste. Minimal food choices, even for lunch and dinner in the buffet. You have to wait to get a table in every restaurant, even the buffet. We waited in line for 15+ minutes; this is unacceptable, especially for a buffet when there were multiple tables empty. We finished our buffet meal before our drinks even got ordered or arrived if somebody came to take our drink order. The steakhouse was the same for lunch; a 30 minute wait in line for a pre selected menu of only 5 items; ridiculous. For dinner, the wait was at least 1 hour in all of the restaurants and the food was only OK. I'm not picky, but the food, really was just OK. Not sure if would go back but if so, it would be because the relaxed setting was so nice, but would probably not do all inclusive and would eat in town because the food was not good and the wait time was ridiculous. Italian restaurant food was pretty good. Seafood was also good. Steakhouse was so so. Japanese was good; no shrimp. They definitely cook their food on a budget and use only minimal ingredients to save money. At least half of the rooms have views of the swamp area on the side the resort; definitely inquire about the view you are getting; the little upgrade in price for a better view is well worth it. There is a casino in front; it is not part of the resort, but it is nice. We didn't gamble there. They also have a free shuttle into town; definitely do this. It takes you to town where you can see the floating bridge and floating market. It's about 3 hours of a trip and well worth it; great way to see the city, local people, and get a flavor of the country. I have stayed at other am resorts and this one in comparison was disappointing, but sunscape is the lowest line of resorts they have, so we kind of expected for it not to be as top notch as we are used to; that made it OK. I actually almost considered investing in their vacation club at one point, but this resort made me decide not to.

Room tip: ask and pay for a good view; you'll be sorry if you don't

We came back June 20th from Sunscape Curacao This was our first time and honestly we were concerned after some mixed reviews.Let me put to rest any worries. This place was AMAZING!!!! Upon arrival in the Sunclub[Money well spent for the upgrade] We met Cindy Daal from reservations and Natalia [Consierge] They are wonderful! They both made sure our special anniversary was perfect!! Our room in the Flamingo wing was quiet and very nice. Kenneth the bartender is truly 1 of the best bartenders I've ever met. He constantly made sure we were happy with our drinks. He works very hard, I wish people would tip for good service. [SOME PEOPLE THINK YOU DON'T NEED TO TIP AT AN ALL INCLUSIVE resort] We stopped by the SunClub daily, Natalia couldn't do enough for us. I manage a very exclusive health club in Boston, I would be very proud to have these employees working for me! We are DEFINITELY COMING BACK !.. BARRY G [from Boston]

Traveled with family for a beach and dive trip. Great resort if you like cigarettes, mildew and rats. Pools are marginally clean and average compared to other resorts. Beach has plenty of glass (not sea glass- broken bottles). Diving is great right off their reef though. Food is average, dinners take 2+ hours. Kids Club is great- the entire staff there really want to make your kids happy. Sunclub is worth it for the extra pool but don't expect any nicer rooms or service. Rooms all need upgrading. Management was too busy to talk to us about our experience.

Room tip: ask for a room that isn't overwhelmed with mildew

We traveled to Sunscape Curacao for our honeymoon this month.

The hotel itself is fairly old, though it does seem like it is in the process of being updated. This was not a problem for us, they were updating some of the roofs and other areas of the resort during our stay but we know that this is their slow season so this is the best time for them to do it.

For an all-inclusive resort, the food was good. We were not expecting a 5 star chef at each of the restaurants because that's not what we paid for. The buffet did get repetitive after a bit, but there were many options to cater to all sorts of people that we didn't mind too much.
The restaurants were a source of frustration for us though. Besides the Japanese restaurant, there are no reservations required for the sit down restaurants. This is great, except for when you show up for dinner at 7 and don't get seated until 8. Part of the blame here falls on the organization of the resort and the wait staff. We visited each restaurant twice except for Oceana, and it always took a very long time to get food. There were days that we placed our order and our main dish did not come out for 45 minutes. These are small restaurants, there is no reason that food should take that long to make.
One addition that would be nice to add to the resort is a "pool side grill" of sorts. The resort currently has 2 places to eat for lunch, the buffet and the Blue Water Grill. The Blue Water Grill is billed as a pool side grill where you can come in wearing a swimsuit and be wet after getting out of the pool/ ocean but their very limited menu of 4 items still takes 45 minutes to get your food. A quick serve type of restaurant set up similar to the buffet (Can still have 4 or 5 items only) that are grab and go when you're wet and hungry would be a very nice addition.

There were plenty of bars all over the resort, but there was very little consistency among them. Some bars loaded your cup half full with alcohol and very little juice in your drink, and others gave you much more juice. I think a standardized training would be helpful there. The resort had special "drinks of the day" listed on their daily newsletter. About 50% of the time, if you asked for the drink of the day by name, the bartenders and/or servers knew what you were talking about. They also did not seem to know the very common (to American tourists,at least) cocktails of a screwdriver or rum punch. My husband ordered a screwdriver a couple times and got a glass 3/4 filled with vodka with just a splash of orange juice, it was not drinkable and got discarded. Kenneth, the sun club bartender was absolutely incredible though!

We were upgraded to the Sun Club since we booked through UVC. The Sun Club definitely had some perks like a private beach, pool, bartender, and concierge, however we didn't personally think that it was worth the expense (had we paid for it ourselves). We spent most of the time at the hotel on the Sun Club side of the beach and for that reason, we missed most of the announcements of activities going on by the pool or in other areas of the resort.

One other source of frustration was that it seems that everything around the resort shuts down at 6 or 7 pm. I understand that they are trying to push people towards the restaurants and their entertainment at that point, but I would like more options. All of the pools close at 7:00 pm, despite having in-pool lighting and plenty of lights around the pool area. This is not a lifeguard issue as there are no lifeguards on duty during the day either. My husband and I wanted to play shuffleboard one day at 6:30 before we had dinner, well the shuffleboard equipment is kept in the towel hut which closes at 6:00 pm. We asked the entertainment staff and he retrieved it for us, and we were able to play. The shuffleboard equipment stayed out the rest of the night, and was always busy with people playing! It seems silly for everything to disappear and shut down so early.

Overall, we definitely enjoyed our stay and will be back if/ when we make a trip back to Curacao. However, there are definitely many things that can be improved.

This is an older resort on a good beach with a very good pool system for kids and adults. This is an all-inclusive resort with one downside. The rooms were large and while they showed a bit of wear, they were very nice. The hotel staff could not have been more attentive or helpful. This trip involved 3 families and some of us had to change rooms because of room issues. The hotel responded immediately any time there was a problem. Rooms were clean and comfortable with a stocked mini-frig and working cable TV. Our issue was with the food service. The food was average to poor but the service was awful. Servers ranged from the outright rude to the uninterested. It could take a half hour for a server to notice you and give you water or tea. It was not unusual for them to take a drink order and never been seen again. This is a European resort, so Americans need to relax and understand that service will not be speedy, but too often it was glacial or nonexistent.

Dear Dave,

I am happy to read that you enjoyed the resort overall, but that the food was a downfall. It is not acceptable that your order is not being taken or even being brought. we truly believe that customer service should be a greatest perks and I will surely share this with the F&B department so they can take the actions required.

Warm Regards,
