The villas/houses are very nice, cosy tropical set up, nice atmosphere, feeling to be in a quiet relaxing environment, privacy of villa’s is perfect, service personnel top and really aimed at providing top services to you as a customer. Major disadvantage of the resort: due to positioning of villas with the terrace / balcony on the lee-side of wind, there really is a plague of mosquitos whole day also during daylight hours. The mosquitos shelter on the lee-side of the wind which is the villa’s terrace sheltered from the nice and required Caribbean wind. Basically you have to protect yourself whole day with anti-mosquito spray and keep bed room doors completely closed. When we arrived each of the three bed rooms had 20-40 mosquitos inside. Hence due to the lack of wind it is also somewhat hot on the terraces however this is bearable using the provided fans. If the mosquito disadvantage would not exist we would rate this resort with 5 stars. When you are really Eco, go for it. When mosquitos are your torment, then really decide to stay somewhere else.

Dear Frank,

Thank you for your really nice message. We are really pleased to read that you had a good stay at Morena Resort.
We are very sorry that the mosquitoes caused such a hassle, though these little critters are part of the fauna in this part of the Caribbean.
Like you said, the only thing we can do is using enough anti-mosquito spray and hang mosquito nets above the bed.
We do offer these at the till in the lobby.

We do hope to see you again in our resort.

Kind regards,

The morena team.

We loved our stay here! There is a great restaurant on the premises, several pools, just a 15 min. walk to the beach. The service was excellent. We were there with extended family so each family had a villa but were with in a short walk from each other. We couldn't have been more pleased!

Nice, modern cottages with porch. All the appliances you need to have a prefect holiday. 2 pools which will not be the biggest ones you've seen but good enough for family's with young children. Bars and restaurant are good. 5 min. walk to the white sands of Jan Thiel beach. Supermarket nearby. Rental car is recommended.

Morena resort provides an excellent base for visiting Jan Thiel beach and for surveying the island of Curacao. The beach with some five restaurants and some shops including one AH supermarket is about 400-500 meters walking. The beach is entirely developed, not really any free empty space - we preferred to stay at Koko's beach, the roomiest and hippest where beds can be rented for 10 guilders (about 4,50 Euros or 6 dollars) per day.

A good feature is that Morena have their own car rental - pretty new and handy Kia Picanto's with airconditioning for a reasonable price (49 dollar per day including All risk insurance) both manual and automatic available. We ran a leak tire one day (exchanged it with the spare ourselves near Westpunt) and this was handled pretty graciously the next day by their own mechanic so we could continue to drive.

Morena's own restaurant Fuego has a good breakfast at 17 dollars and can get busy in the evening ... but there are enough other restaurants at Jan Thiel beach - we found Zest, Tinto and Zanzibar all quite good. Zanzibar has a nice happy hour between 5-6 on Saturday followed by Live Music, recommended. Morena also has just started a second restuarant near the second pool which was less busy but looked good also.

Other notable features are the high viewpoint afforing sweeping views all the way to Willemstad, and the luxurious looking Mazzai Spa on the premises.

To visit the Jan Thiel beach, you can pick up free tickets and beach towels from the reception of Morena.

We are into our 2nd week here. Our daughter and her partner joined us for the 1st week and it's been just the 2 if us since Sunday. The location is great, the property is fabulous, the restaurants are very good and the staff is helpful and friendly....that is until you need tea towels or soap. We have had to chase tea towels ever since we got here. Same with hand towels which you can get at reception but I don't understand how they can't replace what they take away when servicing the unit. You take 4. You leave 4. Onto soap. No hand soap in the bathrooms or kitchen. Weird but we bought some. There were 2 dishwasher "pucks" when we arrived. Turns out they are not supplied. I don't mind buying coffee and other food but soap should be supplied. Anyway, be warned. Bring some with you. Otherwise, first rate and highly recommend.
