2nd trip. 3 couples, aged 62-70. Sunwing from Toronto, Jan. 13-27. Had a good flight and fast check in. Resort is quiet, relaxing. It is not a party resort! This is a snorkeler's beach, meaning it is a more rocky entry as it is a coral reef. It is not a swimmer's beach where you find lots of sand and long walks on the beach. Do your research to make sure you will get what you want in a holiday.WEATHER:hot, sunny, windy, an occasional quick shower, humidex of 35C most days.SNORKELING: Excellent from the shore as it was shallow enough to see everything. Good variety of creatures; you do have to look for them as some are hiding: octapus, spotted moray, sharp tailed eel, barracuda, scorpion fish, fire worms and the more common suspects. Very windy the 2 wks., wind coming from the east, but sheltered on the west coast so you could always snorkel. Please!!! Follow good snorkeling etiquette--reef friendly sunscreen, no touching anything ( fire coral as well as fire worms), no standing on anything as some new coral is microscopic and one touch will kill it, don't feed the fish (should not be eating bread and bananas).ROOMS: We had junior laguna. Quiet sitting on the balcony at night. Rooms were large, clean. A warning about the shower. Turn the shower head slightly down and to the wall and place a towel on the floor. Otherwise you might have a flooded floor. If you need HAIR CONDITIONER, bring your own. Everything else provided, including a hair dryer.FOOD: We ate at the buffet so this is where my comments are directed. Casual dress for dinner. Fresh croissants, made to order eggs at breakfast. Lots of fresh fruit at all meals. You can drink the water from the tap. We were pleased with the variety of offerings at all meals. There is no reason you can't find something to eat. Loved the soups! Staff are very attentive. I read a few negative reviews before we left so I want to address a few issues here. Both the Scubar and the buffet have always opened at 7am so divers can get whatever meal they would like. All dishes are always labelled so there is never a mystery.STAFF: Excellent! Very welcoming and friendly! And this includes the gardeners. Buffet staff (Leni, Lot, Roger, Zaida and many others) were wonderful. Everyone tried hard to please.POOL:Clean. Easy to find loungers here at at the beach any time of day.Watch where you walk! Could be an iguana poop lurking somewhere during the day and at night small hermit crabs.

We enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere at the Plaza. During our stay the resort was certainly far from fully booked.

We upgraded the room to the oceanfront suites. Very spacious rooms. Our room was overlooking the beach bar. Good that it was not busy because I suspect there would have been much more noise later into the night.

Buffet meals at the Tipsy Seagull were quite good for buffets. By the end of the stay a lot of the items were just the same. The variety of items over the cook to order area was good, but the rest were repeated.

Nice sized pool. However there must have either been a shortage of staff or the staff were on vacation. Many of the chairs/loungers around the pool had bird droppings on them and were not cleaned. Same for the deck and the walkways, except it was iguana droppings that were not cleaned.

Service was quite good until the day before we departed. It appeared that they were short staffed. The single bartender at the beach bar seemed completely detached from what was going on. There were two people at the bar when we arrived and they were served first while we waited. The bartender acknowledge us. Then one other person arrived and was served, then another. After ten minutes we left. Same kind of thing at the restaurant. The servers continually walked past us without offering even a glass of water.

The ScuBar near the dive shop was a completely different experience. The staff their were very friendly regardless of how many people were at the location.

A point of note about the casino. There are a few evenings during the week where it is almost impossible to get access to any of the slot machines. Seems to be associated with pay day on the island. Locals show up when the casino opens, put a minimal amount of money in multiple machines then tip chairs against them while they play one or go off to the tables. My wife asked security about this and was told she could not touch those machines (most had as little as one cent showing). When she asked about this at reception she was told that the resort "has nothing to do with the casino." Strange.

Room tip: If selecting the ocean front, ask for a room away from the beach bar.

This property was amazing. The food, hotel rooms, staff, beach were a 10 out of 10. The snorkeling was fantastic however it was a bit difficult to get into the ocean from the hotel beach - lots of rocks, hard on the feet, but once you are in amazing snorkeling, tons of fish right off the beach. Food was great. Lots of variety in the buffet for 3 meals a day. 3 minutes from the airport. Very spacious rooms with 2 king sized beds and very clean.

A group of 8 of us just spent a week at The Plaza Resort and absolutely loved it.
It exceeded prior concerns we had due to some reviews we had read, even though we know to take them with a grain of salt.

The food was fabulous, plentiful, well presented and there was a different variety every day.I understand the addition of 2 new chefs has something to do with this.
There were some servers more pleasant than others....Zaida, in particular is outstanding.

Our room (Laguna Suite ) was HUGE, one of the updated ones with respect to the furniture and very clean Everything worked in it very well....fridge, hair dryer, air conditioner, shower etc.

We never encountered any problems at the Coconut Crash bar with long waits. Again , some could have been more pleasant/outgoing but one in particular was outstanding and that was Jadira. We were pleased we had the "upgrade" that allowed us to enjoy our favorite brands.

We used the front desk only once to hire a taxi. The number we had been given for a particular driver was incorrect and Sherin didn't give up in working at getting us contacted with the correct person. Kudos to her.

What I myself loved SO much was being able to snorkel everyday right from the beach, or as in some days 4 times in a day. Yes, it is challenging to get into the water due to the reef, but with a little planning it is doable. SOOOO many fish of all colors, shapes and sizes. I was even able to get my "non swimming husband" into the water, with the aid of a borrowed life vest from the activity centre, so that he too could have his first peek at the underwater world.

There is a large pool but we are beach people so never did use the pool. It was not crowded any of the times I walked by it.

This is not a "happening", lively night time resort but laid back, relaxing and quiet. We all loved that about it.

I had hoped to take in a yoga class or 2 but when I went over to the studio at the scheduled time(not part of the resort so there is a charge) they were not open so I never tried again.
There is also a beach volleyball net set up that my husband would have liked to have been able to play on but the guests didn't seem the type. Do remember this seems to have a high dive, snorkel clientele as opposed to land sports.

No question..... I would recommend Plaza Beach and go again.
