My partner and I stayed in this cottage over the New Year Eve 2018 for 3 days. We found it above standard. It clean and comfortable beds to sleep in. The Internet was pretty decent. We could receive 4G signal for phone. TV was Freeview. We also brought two dogs, we found it on Home Away website (property id #8280795) and then booked directly with the owner, which was cheaper. There are actual two cottages in the same barn conversion in the photo. We were in the back cottage, which has a rock stone garden with a breakfast table. The area is quiet and the only noise is from the owners who have a workshop barn next door. Bring a bluetooth soundbox if you need music. Luckily in the other front cottage was empty, so essential we could play music as loud as we like. The cottages a situated 35 yards away from the owner's house and they about 75 yards from the main road.
The cottages were compact. There are two full size bedrooms and each has wet room ensuite. My advice is to bring some flip flops, because the wet room has no divider and therefore, after a shower, the residue water reaches the toilet WC and the face basin. There are no cupboards in the wetroom to store a wash bags, contact lenses or makeup. So your mileage may vary. The owner supply two towels for each person.
The bedroom are larger than normal. There are chest of draws and a cupboards with hangers.
We brought our two small dogs with cages for the holiday break. The dogs were able to go out of the picket fence back garden into a large enclosure area. I had one dog off-lead and another one on the lead.
The property is next door to a sports club, which has a two football / rugby fields. The locals seem to use it all the time to walk their dogs (thick mud, so pack your Wellingtons)
The living lounge area is fairly compact and there was a two seater sofa and two sitting chairs in. We would like to put our feet up after long day walking in the new forest, or driving to Bournemouth, but we couldn't. We made use of the wood fire and the owner supply firewood and firelighters, it does get very warm. We kept feeding the wood burner, because it is small. It is a nice feature.
The kitchen area is perfectly adequate and you find all the appliances in good order. I might be idea to bring a wok if you into Asian cooking. We felt the property was adequate for a couple. We imaging that two couples could stay in the cottage provided they really get with each other. If you suddenly have a fall out with one another, ah... forgot about sleeping on the couch.
Alderholt has a Somerfield convenient shop nearby, just down the road, and you can drive to several shops Tescos, Sainsbury (Ringwood) in nearby towns. You can find a three star Chinese takeaway in Fordingbridge. This property are close to the New Forest and the Moors Valley Country Park (bring decent comfortable Wellington boots and/or proper hill waterproof trekking shoes) and also Bournemouth for the seaside.
I rate this property as 7.5 out of 10.
