Had a great stay at the South Sound Villa. We hardly had to leave since there is so much to do right there. We kayaked, swam, snorkeled, had lazy afternoons by the pool. The large deck off the main rooms is wonderful for meals (or just swinging in the hammock or the hammock chair) - protected from the sun and gets the ocean breezes. The villa is so colorful, with beach and island decor in every room. It's also just a quick trip to grocery stores, restaurants and the North Sound ferries.
We have traveled all over and Virgin Gorda is absolutely our favorite place to vacation. The location of this villa offers some of the best of what Virgin Gorda has to offer. The views are amazing from every room. We love to sit on the porch and watch the birds, turtles, and fish down in the water. The snorkeling and scuba diving from the private dock is amazing.
This villa is absolutely amazing. The views are truly unbeatable, and the privacy is unrivaled. I was able to do yoga out by the pool in the mornings and then walk down the stairs straight to the ocean. Virgin Gorda is truly nature's little secret; there's nothing like fresh mangos and coconuts from the farmer's market. The villa is large enough to accompany big groups, and the island decorations are endearing. Absolutely worth the trip!
Renters beware! This place at one time may have looked like the pictures, and from what I understand it's not very old, but the sea air is taking a horrible toll on this place. The paint is peeling everywhere, and everything that can rust is. The owners are not keeping on top of these issues. Yes it is in a beautiful location. It is unfortunate that the beach that you look at is covered in trash. We picked floating trash out of the water on both days that we snorkeled there (what a shame and that's not the fault of the owner of this villa, of course). But the main problem is that the place is filthy dirty. If it was a hotel, it would literally be shut down by the health department! There is old and new gecko droppings everywhere - behind everything, in bathroom cabinets, on top of the kitchen counter, everywhere!! It's very obvious that the droppings get swept up, but the floors don't get washed so leftover marks from the droppings are still there. Only some of the windows get washed. Any windows that are not reachable from the ground are so covered in ocean salt spray??? that you can't see out of them. There's rusty screws, nails, and other junk laying everywhere - on the kitchen counter, window sills, desks, bookcases... The screen door in the bedroom we stayed in is so corroded/rusted that it barely opens and closes. The second night we were there, there was a big storm and the water came in under all of the doors and flooded 1/2 the house. The kitchen cabinets are peeling apart at ground level. You can see on the ceiling and walls where there have been leaks. We had to put a cooler that we found sitting in the dining room (with dirty water in it) under a window where water poured in. This place is just a disaster. Again, I'm sure that at one point it was "basic" but new and in good shape, but it is not now. The pictures of it on the point surrounded by all that beautiful water make it look like a dream, but we thought of it more like a hunting cabin that doesn't get cleaned much and that's overrun with not mice but geckos and in the Caribbean instead of the woods. Yuk is all I have to say about this place.
