“Lovely cottage...but”
Reviewed 20 January 2015 for a stay in December 2014

We stayed over New Year. Monyash is a lovely village with a great pub. The cottage is in a perfect location for a New Year break with lots of walks close by.

The cottage is wonderful. Really well equipped and all the rooms are lovely. It has a lovely home from home feel.

We were really impressed with the detailed instructions sent to us via email before we left home and that we could buy additional logs if we wanted to, unfortunately we didn't know before we went and took some with us.

We would have given it 5 stars except for two things. The shower was very poor, the water tank is on the same level as the bathroom and there is obviously too low a pressure. Something a good plumber could sort out I'm sure. It's been mentioned before in reviews.

The second thing was the noise of the boiler, when it switches on. It was very cold when we were there so we need the heating to switch on early. The boiler is in a cupboard in the bedroom, which has louvre doors. Had the boiler had insulated solid doors it would have been OK, but the boiler firing up woke us every morning.

I wouldn't recommend the cottage in the winter for light sleepers, which unfortunately we are.

We were please to receive this review as it contained valuable feedback where improvements could be made.
Unfortunately, the shower pump became defective towards the end of the guests stay but this has now been replaced and we have also bought a spare pump, which we can fit immediately if the same eventuality arises. Its unusual to run central heating over night, but we are in the process of fitting acoustic sound proofing in the boiler cupboard.
I can assure prospective guests that with the woodburning stove the central heating boiler and 2 feet thick walls our cottage is cosy and warm in winter.

“A cosy cottage perfect for a weekend away in the Peak District”
Reviewed 7 December 2014 for a stay in November 2014

I visited Avonlea Cottage with my girlfriend in November for a long weekend. The cottage is lovely and cosy and very well equipped with everything you'd need. Lovely welcome from Chris and Carole with a bottle of prosecco which was well received! Nice log burner - when we got it going! As others have said, the bed is very comfortable! No issues with the shower which was powerful and warm! Watch your step around the back if it has been raining as the paving gets slippy!

Visited the Bull's Head in the village, which had friendly staff and excellent food at reasonable prices (main meal around £11). Also visited Chatsworth House, about a 20 minute drive away, which was fantastic with its Alice in Wonderland theme for Christmas, £20 entry but well worth it, as well as a huge Christmas market. We also went to Poole's Cavern which is a natural cave system in Buxton, also a 20 minute drive, with some impressive stalactites and stalagmites. Our tour guide was very informative and excellent with the children who were on the tour. Nearby is Bakewell, which is a lovely town, famous for its Bakewell Pudding, which is also worth a visit.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend Avonlea Cottage and would not hesitate to visit again.

“Wonderful cosy cottage”
Reviewed 29 October 2014 for a stay in October 2014

This was a lovely cosy little cottage, It has everything you could want and more. From the bottle of Prosecco when you walked through the door to the Wood Burner stove it was warm and inviting. Monyash is a quiet but centrally located village that allowed us to escape the hustle and bustle in our busy lives, it is close to Bakewell, Chatsworth and lots of other wonderful villages that were a treat to find and enjoy. We had a great break for Five days and will certainly return.

“compact and cosy”
Reviewed 28 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Small cottage ideal for 2 in a lovely village; perfect for walking and visiting the area. Well furnished and clean and tidy. Overall we liked the cottage but some minor criticisms: A little bit cramped, and with the steps in and out of the kitchen it was easier to eat at the breakfast bar than carry things into the living room. Fridge had a freezer compartment rather than the fridge freezer we were expecting but we managed to squeeze in the food we had brought so not a major problem. Main criticism was that the water pressure in the shower was so low that taking a shower was almost something to be endured! Nevertheless, we really enjoyed the holiday.

The guests obviously enjoyed staying at Avonlea but its size didn't meet their aspirations. The shower pressure was variable due to poor towns water pressure. This was recently rectified by fitting a power shower system.

“Ideal location for the Peak District”
Reviewed 29 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

A lovely cottage ideal for couples to use as a base. Cosy surroundings and all the amenities you require. Close to the village pub which has an extensive menu and serves excellent food at a good price ( would recommend the Barnsley Chop).
