Warm welcome from the minute we arrived, friendly staff who couldn't do enough for you. Excellent game drives however very weather defendant at this time of year, we were not able to see all aspects due to heavy rainfalls. Food & Dink was great and lots of it!

Thank you so much for your great review of your stay with us at River Lodge. We are sorry about the rain although it is great for the vegetation and wildlife! We are so pleased that you enjoyed our hospitality, food and beverages. We really try to ensure that all our guests have a great safari experience. We hope to see you back again. With kind regards from all at Kariega.

We had a wonderful weekend at the River Lodge with top class accommodation, service and meals. The game drives were amazing and we had close encounters with 4 of the big 5 as well as many other animals. We really couldn't ask for a better weekend away.

Had a two night stay here at the end of our time in S Africa. After a relatively dull sundowner game drive at Addo, this place was a revelation, as was Rosie our marvellous game ranger.
Our first close encounter with the wildlife (a boomslang in the reception lobby roof!) twas a bit unnerving but what followed was unforgettable. TLions, giraffe, zebra, elephant, rhino, hippo, wildebeest, ostrich, and more bucks and boks than you could shake a stick at! Two 4 hour game drives a day, all packed with wall to wall close up game viewing.
All inclusive food isn't going to win any fine dining awards but was great, as was the bottomless bottle of Beyerskloof pinotage! You get spend your main meal times (breakfast and dinner) and the game drives, with your allocated ranger and fellow holidaymakers. That worked very well and we met some great people.
The lodge is (as its name suggests) on the river in a beautiful location. And our accommodation, a thatched lodge about 50 yards from the main building, was spacious and comfortable - and how can you beat opening your curtains at 7am to see giraffes having their breakfast just yards away from your front door.
Finally, another word for our ranger. Rosie's passion for wildlife shone through and her knowledge and instinct for knowing where best to go made for a wonderful experience for us. There were so many "good things". But coming across a pride of lions resting after a kill, or getting out of our vehicle to watch a technicolor sunset, drink in hand, alone apart from the company of giraffes and springboks, that was something else.
Thank you Rosie!

Room tip: There are more remote rooms than we had, reached by golf buggy. We were pleased to be closer to the main building.

My daughter and I went to the Kariega River Lodge in August, 2014. The safari was all inclusive and room and food was unbelievable in quality. The pictures on their web site are very accurate.
The weather was great in August, no snakes or bugs. Our guide was Wayne and he was a wonderfully friendly young man with impressive knowledge about all animals, what poachers are doing, and animal conservation needed for the future! I can't thank the lovely wait staff who took care of us and made us feel welcome. I have traveled all over and even though I am older (67),
I was able to do everything except hop into our lovely land rover without a cute little step ladder discretely supplied by Wayne twice a day. Thank you staff for making my childhood dream come true.
Sincerely,
Patti and Hannah

Room tip: Our room was a 2 minute walk from the main lodge, although I think any room on the property would be excellent.
