This is a very comfortable hotel in an excellent location. It's on a beautiful tree-lined walking street on one side and the river on the other. Close to a lot of interesting neighborhoods in Kyoto including Pontocho street, and a very short walk to subway stations.
Beds were comfortable, a decent amount of room space, nice enclosed shower/tub and separate toilet (always appreciated). Excellent breakfast buffet in a lovely large room
I think with breakfast and taxes it came to about $325 a night which is a steal by large American city standards.

Room Tip: if you're interested in view, you might ask for a river view

Overall, I thought that this was a relatively nice, boutique hotel conveniently located right next to the Kyotoshiyakusho-Mae station. The staff was friendly, the lobby had a beautiful garden view, and the hotel was located within walking distance of many restaurants and sites. However, our room was tiny! There was a wardrobe with room to hang five pieces of clothing, no drawers and barely any counter space. We had to just prop our suitcases on this big loveseat just so we could have access to our clothes. Our hotel in Tokyo (comparably priced) was much bigger!

Please note that if you are a JR pass holder, you need to purchase a separate subway ticket to the hotel at cost of 260¥ (@ 2018) from Kyoto station (and change one line) - JR PASS IS INVALID for Kyoto bus and metro. But it is rather straightforward. This hotel has a touch of zen, and is right next to the riverside. Very clean and spacious room. Staff is able to communicate in excellent English. A human-touch hotel with many power plugs. The beds are very comfortable. For my room, the shower room and toilet are separated, which is a good feature. From the hotel, you can actually walk to many attractions in Kyoto! Usually I will try different hotel if I revisit the city, but this will be the hotel I will check-in if I return to Kyoto.

This boutique style hotel was in an excellent location, right around the corner from Gion and Pontocho street which is filled with restaurants and you may even spot a geisha. There is also a train station across the road. Our room was decent size, clean and ultra modern. The bed was extremely comfortable which is really important factor when choosing a hotel! Most of the reception staff where also very helpful especially Nami, who helped choose a restaurant from a special occasion. The hotel also features a public bath facility downstairs. If we return to Kyoto we will definitely be staying here again!
