“A fabulous villa in a beautiful location”
Reviewed 8 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

If you want an extremely well equipped apartment near a typical French village overlooking Nice with stunning views, Le Contadour is for you. Liz and Quentin were perfect hosts and could not have been more helpful.
The Villa is easy to find and is just a short walk 5 minute walk to the lovely medieval village of Gattieres where you can buy your breakfast from the Boulangerie or supplies from the Intermarche. If you go at the right time of year you may even get to see an opera in the village square.
We look forward to returning.

“Beautiful villa on village hilltop with easy access to the Riviera sights”
Reviewed 11 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Where to start when you've had such an amazing holiday! Firstly the accommodation is exactly as per the pictures - beautiful apartment/villa with the most gorgeous well kept gardens. We had fresh lemons from the lemon tree every day and rosemary, parsley and mint for cooking - it's a cooks paradise especially as the villa has a "home from home" feel, well stocked with utensils. Some apartments you go to feel very plain and tacky but this is a real home from home with lovely decor. It was well equipped for our baby with a high chair, cot, cot bedding and baby bath. For older kids there was a lovely second bedroom - we didn't use it but it was very pretty and well kept.
The pool is unheated so on cooler days you need to be brave but as it was quite hot when we were there so it was great! There are about 8 stony steps from the pool down to the garden and apartment door so worth noting if you're taking a toddler. It didn't bother us with a baby though.

We travelled 30 May-8 June; myself, my husband and our baby (age 31, 38 and 7 months). It was the perfect age for our baby - as he's not walking there was no problem with the fact the garden is not grassy. Liz and Quentin were delightful owners and hosts - as all the other reviewers have said they gave us privacy to use their pool but were on hand for travel tips (and to share a glass of wine or two!). We had lunch with Liz and Quentin in the village restaurant Le Beau Site (doesn't look up to much from the outside but the restaurant is amazing, including the garden with the orange tree and kaffir lime plants) and the food here was fantastic.

The location is fab - a 10 minute walk to the lovely Gattieres where you can buy fresh baked goods, local mountain cheeses and fruit & veg daily. We loved our days where we had a fresh continental breakfast out by the olive tree, wandered into town for a leisurely long lunch then back to the villa for some poolside fun and cooked a small meal in the villa at night with drinks on the balcony.

It's an easy 25 min drive from Nice airport and situated on a hill with great views of the villages below and the Var river. Very twinkly at night looking out to the coastal towns and French coastline, with fireflies creating even more twinklyness!
Antibes, Monaco, Nice, Cannes are all within an hours drive but there is much to explore up the Alps too with stunning scenery travelling up by the Vesubie river and lots of walks and mountain villages with great markets and Patissieres.

There really isn't anything to fault on the property, service or location - it was all fantastic and I'd highly recommend the villa for anyone wanting to explore the Riveria and some of the mountainous regions - it's also close to Italy so you really need more than the 9 days we had!
A special final thank you to Liz and Quentin for looking after the place so well, giving us some great tips and just generally being lovely with us and our baby.

Liked best: Scenery & location - amazing views over the French coast and easy access to Nice, Antibes etc but also set at the bottom of the Alps-Maritimes so lots of stunning drives and walks nearby
Liked least: Nothing! Heated pool would have been nice but a cooler pool in the hot weather is great

We were delighted to receive such lovely comments from our last guests. It was an absolute pleasure to have an opportunity to get to know them and to share precious moments with them.
It is at times like this that sharing our lovely home is so worthwhile. We are very fortunate to have met some wonderful people here at Le Contadour and to hear that they also loved being here.

“Wonderful place to stay in a gorgeous location for exploring and relaxing”

We stayed here with our toddler, and had an amazing holiday. The location is between the coast and the mountains, 20 mins drive to either, so amazing for exploring. We also spent time just relaxing at the villa which was so lovely. With very young children you do need to keep an eye on them because of stone steps and the pool, but this wasn't a problem. The hosts are a great couple who are so welcoming and informative but also unintrusive and so considerate. We really hope to stay again and would definitely recommend! A hire car was good as there's so much to see in the area, but the village ten mins walk away does have everything you'd need, including supermarket, and it's charming - not too touristy but friendly. We loved our stay!

“Superb vacance on the Côte d'Azur”

We arrived at Le Contadour Saturday 24 May 2014 for a week’s stay and were welcomed by Liz and Quentin. The apartment, with stunning views of the Var, was completely self-contained, and with a double child’s room too, was perfect for a small family. We love to shop for fresh produce at local markets and cook local foods, so were delighted with the fully equipped kitchen. For those who like to relax in front of the box while on hols, there was satellite TV (untested) and a large selection of DVDs. We enjoyed the use of cards and Scrabble from a cupboard full of games.

Gattieres itself, perched atop a mountain (or very high hill?) was gorgeous. Its centre is made up of tall Venetian styled houses lining tiny, winding, shady streets. Hidden in which we found a friendly bar used by the locals and some quirky shops. There was a choice of restaurants, as supermarket, green grocer and other local shops in the surrounding town – about 10 minutes’ walk from the villa.

The location of Gattieres was ideal. We were just 15 minutes from the centre of Nice or Antibes, where we spent our ‘beach days’, 40 mins from Monaco (my partner managed to drive round the F1 course before they took the barriers down), which is a must visit, and less than an hour to San Remo in Italy. Many people like to go to the huge market in Ventimiglia, but I would definitely recommend San Remo. It’s a lovely little town and they have a great market hall packed with local producers and a large outdoor market heaped with a wide range of products. Perhaps typically, we went back laden with Prosecco, Grappa, Lemoncello, Salami, pasta, cheeses, bread and leather goods.

Whatever we’d been up to during the day, it was great to get back to the villa and relax by the pool. And Liz and Quentin really were the perfect hosts – we knew there were around if we needed them, but for all intents and purposes, it was like having the villa to ourselves.

We really enjoy meeting new clients and sharing a little time with them. The villa and its grounds are quite large which allows perfect privacy if one wants it; also, we always allow guests the privacy of the pool when they wish to use it.
Our guests are correct in saying that we are central for everything on the Cote d'Azur and yet we maintain a beautiful secluded situation away from the "madding crowds".

“Lovely place - lots to see and do”

Thank you for a lovely stay at Le Contador. We thoroughly enjoyed it and found it was the perfect base to travel round the Cote D’Azure. Liz and Quentin are fantastic hosts and the pool and bbq area are simply lovely and exclusive.

Favourite trips had to be Menton (almost on the Italian boarder) and of course Monaco which is simply out of this world. Nice old town, Antibes, Cannes and Beaulie sur Mer also worth a visit just be prepared for heavy traffic even out of season. Another issue is parking – we struggled in some areas and it was expensive! Another tip I wouldn’t use Enterprise again for car hire – we queued for well over an hour at Nice airport to pick up the keys after we’d arrived – wish we’d gone with Sixt or one of the others as they had no queue at all.

What is particularly lovely about Le Contador is that you can travel inland to little medieval villages like Caros, St Paul de Vence and the local village Gattieres. What wasn’t so lovely were the mosquitos that seemed to get us in the evening as soon as we left the coast! That aside it was a truly lovely holiday and there was so much to do that 2 weeks only just about felt long enough.
