Stunning

Review of Tamodi Lodge
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 14 Apr 2017
I am not a man given to gushing over any place. However in this instance I am having to reign myself in.
Tamodi Lodge is one of the best residences I have stopped at. The views are stunning, the food is amazing and the wine cellar offers something for everyones palate, even me and I am a Lager drinker.
It is described as a bed and breakfast, this is to seriously understate both parts of this statement. The rooms are large, comfortable and very well decorated. The breakfast is freshly cooked with daily specials. I will not spoil the experience so go try the breakfast.
The communal areas are spacious with books available on most subjects.

This luxury hotel is situated outside of Plettenburg off the main road to Storms river, adjacent to the riding stables. The building sits on a ridge so the views across the forested valleys are amazing, however, there are no shops or restaurants within walking distance from the lodge. Also note that Tamodi does not offer horse riding as the stables are for training event horses/riders. A great base to explore drive and explore Robberg, Plettenburg beach, Storms River and Bird/Monkey world.

The main building houses some bedrooms and very spacious lounge areas and the breakfast area. There is also a small infinity type pool and sunbathing area. We were able to book one of the rooms (honeymoon suite) that was separate to the main block, with its own parking area and lit paths back to the lodge. The room was huge with indoor and outdoor showers, a dressing room, double bath with views, a terrace, kitchenette and lounge area. It was so private that we felt that we were entirely on our own and could sit and watch the wildlife without interruption. We were surprised that this suite did not have ironing facilities and the lodge does not routinely offer laundry facilities. One other trivial point was that internet access was only in the main block and the selection of English speaking TV channels was poor for such a luxury set up – but maybe that is by design?

Breakfast was taken in the main block and was cooked to order. Lovely food with large portions, great staff and superb views – so nice to dine outside but also have the option to sit inside if needed. Although there was no evening meal option it was nice to come back to a peaceful relaxing atmosphere and be able to choose a bottle of wine from the cellar and take back to our room. Try Enricos for evening meals - great views and food to match.

We were staying in the honeymoon suite which was great, especially the outside shower and the views, well we just agree with every comment before AMAZING.
The breakfasts were about the best we had on our whole trip, however we are not big eaters in the morning and it would be lovely if it could be extended until later so you could appreciate it more. Also and I think Owen is trying to implement this for next year, a cold platter for you to enjoy on your terrace in the evening with a bottle of wine from his cellar would be the icing on the cake for this place. Owen has some great ideas for extra's to enhance your stay, a sundowners platform, guided walks and the new rooms being built.
I'm sure all of this will make it even better than it is.
Just one comment about house keeping. We were there for 4 days and even though I left the towels on the floor after 2 days, on the 3rd I had to ask for fresh towels and also when we asked for some beers for the fridge to be replaced the lady who was in the main house asked me to take them back myself which I would have done but I had my hands full with books and sun cream. However she never bought them over.

Room tip: I think they are all good

    Hi Sally,
I really do appologise for that service as we do pride ourselves in taking care of all our guests needs.
Towels on the floor are normally replaced but on investigating , the staff tell me they have been trying to save water as we are critically short and not necessarily wash everyday but they should have replaced your towels.Getting the balance right between our water shortages and guest experience is very important and something we need to manage better.Glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again soon.
    Take care
    Owen

The welcome was somewhat surprising as we were 'left alone' alone in this big house after a very short introduction by the employee.
But, the next morning, we were completely amazed and blowen away by the beauty of the premises, the spectaculair view at breakfast and the warm welcome by our host Owen. Superb stay !

We had the private honeymoon suite with a balcony looking out onto the forest and mountains. It is totally separate from the main lodge so very private. The staff were very helpful. Breakfast was lovely. Owen, the owner, took us on an early morning hike through the forest which we really enjoyed. He is passionate about nature and we learned a lot. It is a little out of town so you need a car/taxi to access restaurants, etc. Highly recommend!
