We came here as the other half of our ticket with Birds of Eden (that was wonderful too) early in the day. Luckily, we were the only people so had a personalised visit with Melody, who proved to be a most knowledgeable, friendly and passionate guide of this large cat rescue park.
The animals here are not able to be released into the wild because of their previous circumstances: lions kept by 'collectors' in houses and badly managed zoos. The individual animals' stories are heart wrenching but here, one feels that they are respected, looked after and allowed to be alone if they want to be. The story of the black puma Spirit, renamed from Diablo and kept near his cheetah friends is moving. The park had a wild cat whisperer to talk to him as he was so bad tempered and angry and discovered that he didn't like his name and was concerned about his cheetah friend's fate. It's on YouTube.
Do come here early, I'm sure our experience would not have been as good had we come in a very large group, please tip the guide, they don't ask and probably dont expect it, but I'm sure they don't earn very much and his knowledge and passion was moving.
There are viewing platforms to see into some of the enclosures and with three of us, was pleasant, not sure it would have been with 20 people.
We were here for about two hours.
