Comfortable guesthouse in Vanrhynsdorp just off the N7

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 08 Oct 2017
We stayed overnight as a group of five friends and enjoyed the hospitality of the owners who prepared a delicious evening meal for us. The rooms are comfortably furnished in a style fitting the period of the old homestead. Breakfast was generous and this guesthouse can be recommended to anyone looking for an overnight stay on the Cape Namibia route (N7)

A very comfortable stay in well appointed rooms with good facilities. Good food and helpful hosts. We loved sitting in the peaceful courtyard watching the birds splashing in the fountain and we were generally made to feel most welcome.

We enjoyed our stay here recently. On the upside the bed was comfy, the water was hot, the service was excellent, the ambience was great. I would recommend this establishment. On the downside I feel that R100 pp was quite expensive for breakfast but the food was really good and plentiful. I did not enjoy Gigi under the dining room table (she also smells very "doggy"). No kettle in the room is quite inconvenient. The hosts are very welcoming and attentive.

The Van Rhyn guest house is a real gem : you feel truly at home, sitting in the lovely garden or in one of the many quiet corners around the house, enjoying a cup of Rooibos tea. Great location in a quiet village, in the middle of amazing natural beauty : first of all the early spring flowering season which vividly colours Namaqualand in hues of yellow, pink and orange. But the area is also home to a vast range of succulents( the 12km long Jan Smuts walk is a must for every plant lover)& fantastic walking trails in and around the Cedar mountains.A pleasant climate and no pressing tourist hordes makes this a wonderful place to discover nature and culture alike . The food deserves a special mention : in our experience, nowhere in South Africa can one eat lamb, beef and fresh veges as in Vanrhynsdorp and Herbert( best ommelettes), Terence( opera lover) and Richard( inventive cook) will secure your bookings in any restaurant of your choice.

This must be one of the best guest houses in the Western Cape, where we have toured numerous times. We stayed for three nights in late August. It was our second visit, having stayed there last year. The building is a delightful old property that has been very tastefully and sympathetically extended and modernised over the years. There is a wonderful courtyard garden where a multitude of colourful birds are attracted to the fountain / birdbath & bird feeding station. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and well furnished. Breakfast is good and the hosts are friendly and helpful. There are good restaurants nearby, with some within easy walking distance.
We would definitely recommend staying there whilst in the area.

Stayed over for the third time in the Van Rhyn Guest House in Vanrhynsdorp as the first stopover of our three week holiday trip.

Guesthouse owner welcomed us with open arms, explained all the “in’s and out’s” of the establishment, took us on a guided tour and explain the availability of the coffee/TV -, dining-, sitting rooms, etc. We were invited to use these facilities and the coffee was FREE. We were taken to our respective rooms where everything was explained in detail.

The rooms were adequately equipped and the bed and bedding was outstanding. The toilet/shower was clean and soap/shampoos and a variety of towels was available for use.

On our request for supper were adhered to with a smile and we were even requested what we want. Needless to say. The supper was served on time with style.

Our room was well equipped with all the required needs. After a nightcap on the stoop, we retired and had a very good rest.

The breakfast in the dining room the next morning was to cheer for. The variety was amazing and the service throughout was excellent. The food was well prepared and good tasting that left the pallet with that taste of total satisfaction.
We left the establishment with a satisfied feeling and will definitely recommend the Van Rhyn Guest House to anybody that want a “platteland” experience.

Definitely worth a visit and is highly recommended...

Room tip: Definitely worth a visit and is highly recommended...
