While travelling to and from San Ysidro from the Pacific coast for a day, we wanted to stop on our way back and found Ricar2 perched roadside. Thank goodness they were still serving at 3 pm.

The food was outstanding-especially the fresh fish offering. The hamburgers were outstanding as well.. A pitcher of fresh made Margaritas helped to seal the deal for us.

Great service and great people. They were very accommodating, including getting us a large guacamole to take away!!

Love the place-and we would go back anytime we are nearby.

We were staying in a beautiful home in Dominical and one day when the heat and humidity on the coast were overwhelming we drove to San Isidro for a break. The drive itself was gorgeous a two lane road through lush rain forest. Along the way there were the usual fruit stands and several small Tico villages to explore. Each mile we could feel the temperature drop as we encountered more mountainous terrain and moved through a open vistas and sporadic clouds. We were in heaven.

Only a short distance from San Isidro we spotted Ricar2 clinging to the hillside in what seemed like the middle of nowhere. Except the the parking lot was full clearly this place was known to locals and deserved some serious consideration for lunch. We spent some time in San Isidro which is a fine little city tucked away in a valley surrounded by mountains and with ample shops and restaurants few of which are touristy.

On our way back to Dominical we stopped at Ricar2 for lunch and what a fantastic decision that turned out to be. The staff was friendly and and attentive, the vistas of the surrounding mountains and San Isidro in the distance were something out of a National Geographic photo spread. The atmosphere was just perfect, large open dinning area covered to protect patrons from rain but allowing for a nice breeze. You could sit at your table with a camera and pair of binoculars and spend some time bird watching or checking out the surrounding terrain and not want to leave for hours.

The beer, wine and cocktail selection were good and I had an Imperial (surprise) while my wife enjoyed a Mojito. We spent a long time enjoying our meal, a couple of cocktails and just relaxing. The wait staff was wonderful never making us feel rushed and even offering to take our pictures with the mountains as a backdrop. The lunch was reasonably priced and delicious although, we had only sandwiches, we could not help but stare at the filet mignon the gentleman near us was eating and be envious. Curse you capricious travel gods! Why did you not let us know about the filet sooner Why! Why! Why!

Definitely add this to your travel plans and, to ensure you have zero regrets, get that filet mignon. Someday I will be back and it will be mine.

Following the good reviews in here, we decided to give this place a try. Whenever you get to a restaurant and see a lot of cars parked outside you start thinking it might be a good place. We obviously sat in the high chairs facing the amazing view of the El General valley. Just the view made the place worth it, and the food just confirmed that this place is great. We had shrimp and the tuna filet, and they were both delicious and correctly cooked. The salad was good, and the honey mustard dressing on it was great too. They have many great selections and different natural juice drinks, and the price for it all is very good, especially considering the quality of the food. We even bought some of the pastries that were being offered and they were good too.

Totally recommend it and will definitely return the next time I'm in the Perez Zeledón area.

I wasn't sure about going to this restaurant but I read reviews recommending the filet mignon and saying that it was only 5,700 colones ($10 US). I was dubious but we tried it out.
Well what I had heard was true! Had an amazing filet mignon with red wine mushroom sauce and the meat was perfectly done! Tender, cooked medium rare as I had asked, and the potatoes were delicious. We had it with a pitcher of sangria and had a great evening with a beautiful view of the San Isidro valley.

The mushrooms were canned, not fresh, so next time I may try a different sauce. There are a couple choices including simple butter and garlic. I will definitely return, what a tremendous value for a cut of meat that can be hard to find done properly.

I really liked the Chicken Cordon Bleu that I had here. My family was more lukewarm to it. Great view of the valley overlooking San Isidro. Cleaner and more upscale than many of the common "Sodas" along the road.
