Terrific place / nice staff

Review of Bhubesi Camp
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 03 Mar 2017via mobile
We spent one night at Bhubesi and were immediately conquered by the smiling staff, the good food, the rich wildlife and the great accommodation in a beautiful stone house right in the jungle. Real Africa!

Hlane National Park is small but has big character and wonderful staff.
Bubhesi is isolated and quiet, in the middle of the bush with the river running below in front of the cottages.
The dirt roads aren't too good in summer if there is a lot of rain.
Remember to take bottled drinking and cooking water with you as the tap and toilet water is brown.
In summer Bubhesi, being in the Swaziland lowveld is pretty hot, there are no aircons or swimming pool, so cold showers are the order of the day.
Cottages are well looked after, kitchen is well stocked with utensils and the bedding and towels are good quality.
The staff and wonderful, polite, always smiling and willing to help where they can.
Animals were scarce, guess because there was enough water in the bush, they didn't need to go to the waterholes.
All in all, a good, relaxing time away.

Room tip: Cottage Number 3 has minimal steps and a good view of the river

A wonderful review thank you!
Thank you for the comment on the water - this has been forwarded to Management for their attention. The water should not be brown, but when the river comes down or is low, it can be.
Lovely compliments regarding our accommodation and staff, thank you!

This hotel is located inside the Hlane national park, but is accessible only by 4x4. The unit is clean, Bathroom is excellent. Beds are very uncomfortable, esp. if you are tall. They are single beds. Electricity often fails (while we were there). a little difficult to find. No room service, no TV. This place has lots of SNAKES. Beware. Also lots of crawling insects for those who don't like the bush.

Room tip: drive during the day to find your rooms. Very hard to find at night - deep in the bush.

Thank you for your honest review. Our beds are standard single beds. Wonderful to hear you found the accommodation clean and presentable. The electricity is usually consistent, but the post-drought rains may have played a part?
Hlane is about being in the bush, and we do not intend placing TV's into any accommodation, the point being to maximise the nature experience.
The bush is home to all wildlife, snakes and insects included. Where else can they be at home? We do prefer they remain outside and the doors, mesh windows and fans are provided to encourage this!

The camp is far away from the main camp, without any possibility for activieties other than sleep there. Absolutely no animals around other than snakes. 45 min drive to the main camp.
Accomodation is clean and large. Tap water is brownish.

Thank you for your honest review,
Bhubesi is promoted as a remote self-catering camp, 16km from Ndlovu Camp (main camp) where activities etc depart. Bhubesi is fantastic for R&R, birdwatching and is often visited by bushbuck, impala, nyala, kudu and the like.
We area grateful you enjoyed the accommodation - which is currently being upgraded to each room en-suite!
Thank you for the water comment, this has been forwarded to our management for addressing.

Loved the accommodation here and our bush camp. We felt totally isolated being so close to the game we would light a bug fire at night with our free wood and listen to the animal Noises at night. I only wish we stayed longer than 2 nights. We went to the near by simunye country lodge for lunch and used their pool.

Thank you for your lovely review. Apologies for this late response.
Bhubesi is a wonderful bush retreat! Come back in high summer and you might witness the vultures bathing in the river...a very special treat!
