First Swazi Trip and Bhubesi was a perfect Introduction

Review of Bhubesi Camp
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 14 Oct 2014via mobile
We spent 3 nights at Bhubesi in chalet no 4. It had 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom and a fully equipped kitchen (no microwave) with electricity. It suited us very well. If we were to go back we would choose chalet 3 or 6 as they are more secluded.

We loved Hlane National park and saw a lot of game and birds. Swaziland is an amazing country. Hlane means wilderness which is why it is so stark with dead trees and thorn bush. Each drive we saw impala, nyala, warthog, giraffe, kudu, elephant and kudu plus a lot of bird life.

Our only complaint about Bhubesi would be that the staff are very very loud. They start at 6.30am and scream to each other until about 2pm. They seem to need to visit each chalet twice an hour which puts paid to a quiet morning bird watching or sleeping. You can hear them in chalet 4 from all the other chalets as they screech to each other throughout the day. We opted not to have our chalet cleaned but that did not help with the noise.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review Hlane's Bhubesi Camp and the lovely comments.
The noise levels from staff however are unacceptible - thank you for raising this. Although this response to your review is very late indeed (a change over of marketing manager! - apologies!) it has been brought to the Manager's attention and will be addressed. It certainly is not what we encourage or like our guests to experience - the tranquility of Bhubesi is a very special element of the camp!

We took Australian friends to Hlane and spent the night at Bhubesi Camp. We checked in at Ndlovu Camp and luckily saw an elephant come to the water hole to drink. Staff were helpful and this camp well maintained and it was nice to see lots of local people coming to picnic there for the day. However, we felt very sad about the state of the bush. The section that was about 4sq.km where we would supposedly see elephant and rhino looked like the aftermath of a nuclear war. All the big tall trees were dead in this area and thorn bushes were so thick that unless animals stood on the road, it was impossible to see anything. I am not an ecologist but it seriously needs veld management. The roads would have been very difficult for an ordinary car but fortunately we were in a 4x4. We ate a very early dinner as we were told to be thru the gate by 6pm because of elephant and rhino. Hmmmm. The bush on the other side of the gate on the drive up to Bhubesi Camp was also so thick and full of encroaching thorn bush, but we managed a glimpse of Nyala. In this vast stretch of park there are only antelope but hard to see. We were very pleased with our cottage above the river, and sat around a camp fire chatting for hours.
Having travelled from Royal Jozini , the contrast in the bush was vast. Although we also saw two rhino, we left feeling let down and disappointed as we love picturesque Swaziland and it's friendly people. Please Hlane, I think you need some specialists to restore the trees and the bush!

We had a great time, the staff was helpful, game drive was informative and breathtaking, rooms were pretty nice considering we were meant to bush it in the wild.

We only encountered a problem with admin who didn't want to give us a cash refund for her miscalculations - her solution was to have us buy food from the restaurant. After a little back and forth, it was solved and we separated happy ppl.

Brilliant place!
