Riebeek Kasteel is probably best known for wines and olives. While I enjoy my olives, i am a beer drinker.
It was very nice to discover a craft brewer with a large range of lagers, ales, stouts and ciders. At anyone time they have taps with 6 varieties to either sample (3 tastes for R50) or sell by the pint/half pint. They also have bottles to take away - the bottles are really pretty to look at with some quirky artwork.
The brewery itself is open plan - so you can see the workings while you have a pint. You can also sit outside on "street level" and watch the comings and going of the valley on the popular Short St.
A great find and probably worth the hour drive from CT alone.
I am a larger man - and recommend the Route 44 and Tears for the Hipster...the "Bat's Piss" was a little light for me. If cider is your thing...you are in for a treat as they make 3 - one with pomegranates is super-lekker!
Enjoy...make sure you have a designated driver!!

We stumbled across this brewery while wandering through beautiful Riebeek Kasteel. Emilio was a treat, giving us a pleasant tasting of beer, lager, ale and cider. You see the brewery from the tasting area. Seating outside as well.

A small purposeful furnished beer tasting bar. Our host knew his beers very well and was great to chat to. These locally brewed beers all great. The ciders are unusual and refreshing. Must visit.

Great to find a real "craft cider" offering in SA! Delicious flavours. I don't drink beer (run and hide) but my husband enjoyed the Tears and American Pale Ale beers but found the darker brew to be a bit "oily". Perhaps intentional in this motor-themed brewery. They were out of a beer or two and looking forward to seeing more dry cider from them! Emilio the avid "brewtender" was extremely enthusiastic and a great fit for this awesome brand. We'll be back!

I did not have time to hang around for long but man that pale ale is good. Definitely worth the trip.
