Riebeek Kasteel is probably best known for wines and olives. While I enjoy my olives, i am a beer drinker.
It was very nice to discover a craft brewer with a large range of lagers, ales, stouts and ciders. At anyone time they have taps with 6 varieties to either sample (3 tastes for R50) or sell by the pint/half pint. They also have bottles to take away - the bottles are really pretty to look at with some quirky artwork.
The brewery itself is open plan - so you can see the workings while you have a pint. You can also sit outside on "street level" and watch the comings and going of the valley on the popular Short St.
A great find and probably worth the hour drive from CT alone.
I am a larger man - and recommend the Route 44 and Tears for the Hipster...the "Bat's Piss" was a little light for me. If cider is your thing...you are in for a treat as they make 3 - one with pomegranates is super-lekker!
Enjoy...make sure you have a designated driver!!
