It is located adjacent to St Margaret of Antioch’s medieval church, which dates to the 14th Century, and sits directly on the Winchcombe Way hiking route in the heart of the village of Alderton. The character and charm of this 500-year old cottage is evident even before you enter. The character and charm of this 500-year old cottage is evident even before you enter. For a start, Church Road is a no-through road, so there is no passing traffic, or traffic noise to bother you or your guests. The cottage boasts beamed ceilings and walls, a large fireplace that has a gas fired, log burner style stove for fuss and mess free real flame instant heat. Couple that old world charm with contemporary furnishings, gas central heating, on demand hot water, a well equipped kitchen, two 32-inch televisions and high speed fibre broadband; it guarantees to make for a very comfortable stay. The kitchen and conservatory dining room are very well equipped, the whole house having undergone a complete refurbishment, which was completed December 1st 2017. The kitchen is now equipped with a brand new Nespresso machine, fridge, freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher. The china, cutlery and cookware are all high end, and new. You will find that the kitchen has everything you need to prepare a romantic meal for two, or to host a dinner party for friends. The conservatory dining table can seat up to six people. The sitting room has sumptuous seating, two matching armchairs and a matching two-seater sofa that turns into a double bed. There are wrought iron lights on the wall, and lamps aplenty to light even the darkest night. The walls are hung with original artworks in watercolour for a home from home feel. The 32-inch flat screen TV has numerous Free View channels and a myriad of radio stations available for your viewing and listening pleasure. The bathroom is also located on the ground floor, and has everything you need. The bath has a shower fitted with a large glass splash screen, and there is of course, a sink and a lavatory. Like the rest of the house, this room is centrally heated, so you can remain snug and warm as you soak in the tub with a glass of champagne. The towels we supply are large and fluffy, so you can remain pampered even after stepping out of the bath or shower. When you make your way up the original wooden staircase you will discover a stunning first floor bedroom with beamed ceiling, offering a luxurious four-poster super king-size bed, small chest of drawers, fitted oak wardrobe, large wool rug which sits on the polished oak floor and views of the church and garden front and back. There is a 32-inch flat-screen television should you wish to watch TV from bed. The bedside tables have lamps, and there are wall lights either side of the bed too. Wi-Fi reception is excellent in the bedroom. Bells Cottage has the added benefit of an enclosed rear garden, a great advantage if you have brought pets or children. The pretty and mature garden is a great place to sit and relax on warmer days, or to dine alfresco on a summer’s evening. We have equipped the garden with teak furniture: a garden table, four chairs and two bench seats. There is also a lockable external bicycle store, for those who have come on a cycling holiday and a small summer-house. Should you wish to dine out, you are spoiled for choice. The 16th Century village pub, the Gardener’s Arms, is just a few minutes walk away, they offer a Gastro Pub experience, with a varied and interesting mouth-watering home cooked menu, Vegan’s and Vegetarian’s are well catered for too, as are dogs. Yes! They have a dog menu, and dogs are very welcome inside the bar. As well as being renowned for their food, the Gardener’s Arms is also known for its selection of fine real ales, artisan Gin, spectacular wine and local Stanway cider. They have a large beer garden that is hugely popular on warm summer days. They kindly offer a 10% discount off meals and drinks to all Bells Cottage guests. An easy 2-mile walk from the cottage, you will find the Beckford Inn. They open at 7:30 each morning and remain open all day. They are the perfect location for enjoying a full English breakfast when you are away on holiday and would prefer not to cook. Walk or drive just under 3 miles from Alderton and you will discover The Royal Oak in Gretton; another Gastro Pub that is hard to fault. Walk or drive just a little bit further (approximately 4 miles) and you are in the Saxon town of Winchcombe, here you will find historic pubs that date back to Medieval times, and a couple of high end restaurants, Number 5 N

A Cotswold gem
We have just returned from a 4-day stay at Bell's Cottage. It really does live up to expectations and the rave reviews. It's everything you'd want in a cosy Cotswold cottage, oozing olde-world charm, homely and comfortable. Deborah is a first class host; plenty of supplies, good quality fittings, and possibly the only place we've stayed in where the shower towels are full size! We loved the garden - so did our little dog. An all-round perfect base for enjoying the Cotswolds.

We love Bells Cottage.
We are always sad to leave. This was our 3rd visit to Bells cottage. Like other reviews it is definitely a home from home. Deborah is an exceptional host and leaves the most incredible welcome basket and goodies. The cottage has everything you need without it being cluttered. The garden too is prefect for out little 4 legged friends. Cant wait to go back again.

Exceptional!
This was our second time staying at Bell's Cottage. Both times we have loved staying here, it's so beautiful and cosy. The bed is really comfortable, everything is spotlessly clean and the owner really has thought of everything to make your stay enjoyable. The garden is very pretty and the location is perfect for a holiday, with a really friendly pub just a short walk away that was really dog friendly too. The little touches like a bowl of water and doggy biscuits left for our dog made us feel so welcome and the freshly baked scones and prosecco left for the humans were the icing on the cake!

Highly recommend Bells Cottage
We really enjoyed our stay in Bells Cottage. The cottage is perfect and in a lovely quiet little village. We could walk out the door and go for beautiful local walks and, by car, access the Cotswolds other trails. Our host Deborah was very accommodating, thought of everything you could possibly need and was very helpful in providing information on local events and other local attractions. There is also a beautiful garden to relax in. We look forward to staying again

Excellent cottage
My partner and I booked a 4 night break here, for his birthday. We took our little dog with us,the back garden is perfect, completely secure. The welcome pack was wonderful, including the treats of homemade scones. The owner has really thought of everything that you may forget. It felt like home from home & the flowers in the garden are amazing, again lots of care & thought has gone into the garden. Lots of walks on your doorstep. Visited the pub in the village, very dog friendly. Would highly recommend this cottage for a relaxing break.

Just lovely. Very firmly recommended.
Probably the nicest 'home from home' we have ever stayed at. Exceptionally comfortable and very well-equipped. If you are looking for a quiet Cotswolds cottage for a weekend or longer away, you won't go wrong choosing Bells. The cottage was spotlessly clean and that will clearly be the case whether you are a dog owner or not - so don't be put off. The local pub - The Gardener's Arms - missed out on our custom on this occasion I'm afraid because we simply wanted to stay in and cook at home (there is a good Co-Op at Winchcombe, about 4 or 5 miles away by car). Our little dog settled at Bells Cottage more quickly than at other recent destinations and happily lay down on the lounge floor practically from arrival. The safe enclosed rear garden (with outdoor table and chairs and barbecue) was also a plus for us, being dog-owners. The little 'extras' left by the host on our arrival were a very nice touch and much appreciated. Amongst other items, all of the (quality) components were there for a lovely cream tea, which we enjoyed on the Saturday afternoon of our weekend stay - very appropriate as it was my Birthday! The tightish spiral staircase to the first floor bedroom and the bathroom being on the ground floor would probably not make this the ideal destination for the less agile, but for everyone else - just go for it!

Beautiful, cosy retreat
My wife and I stayed at Bells cottage to celebrate our wedding anniversary in May 2022. The cottage was the perfect, peaceful setting. It was well equipped with lovely thoughtful touches. We were both very grateful to our host Deborah who provided a lovely welcome and communicated with us prior and during our stay. We loved the village and surrounding areas. We explored many of the delights of the Cotswolds from the base at Bells Cottage. We would wholeheartedly recommend Bells Cottage to any couple or individuals that would like a peaceful getaway.

Beautiful and well equipped cottage
Without doubt the most beautiful and well equipped cottage we have ever stayed in. Rather than a holiday cottage it's more like staying in the much loved home of a generous and thoughtful friend. No stinting on the accessories - orchids in each room, Molton Brown soap and room diffusers, new fluffy white towels, Prosecco in the fridge, home made scones in a hamper.... The kitchen has every gadget and tool you could possibly need, including even a coffee pod machine and milk frother. The bed is very wide and comfortable, and we both slept soundly all week; although you can hear the church bells they are not intrusive. The garden is typical English country style, well stocked with pink, blue and white flowers, and has a bench at the far end where you can sit and enjoy the evening sunshine with a glass of wine. Our cocker spaniel was very happy exploring this garden which proved totally secure for her. For tall people worrying about low beams - my husband is 6', and the only problem he had was with the door from the kitchen to the sitting room. We found that hanging a tea towel from the hook above the doorframe worked perfectly in reminding him to duck. Those with restricted mobility should take note that access to the bedroom from the living room is via a very steep and narrow wooden staircase. The village of Alderton is very quiet with few tourists, unlike some Cotswolds villages. It has one little village shop/post office (1960s in style) selling newspapers, bread, and Alderton honey amongst other things. We found several walks straight from the cottage which didn't require us to drive. The owner Deborah responded immediately to our minor queries, and could not have been more helpful. Very highly recommended.

Fantastic stay
This week I stayed here for three nights. Amazing cottage. Every detail has been given careful consideration. It has a lot of personality and gives you a warm and friendly sense the moment you walk in the door. We felt completely at ease in a matter of minutes. I can't suggest this lovely little jewel highly enough. Our three small Dachshunds were quickly at ease and warmed up to the place right away.
