We just returned from a one-week stay at this beautiful private island resort. This was our first time at a Bahia Principe. The resort is beautifully situated with 360° views of the ocean and the mainland. We stayed in a Junior Superior suite in one of the villas overlooking the smaller pool and the private beach. There is a much larger public beach at the opposite end of the island. Our room was massive with everything you could possibly need. We found the service and amenities to be in line with other five-star resorts that we have visited (for example the Excellence and Secrets) however the food offerings at dinner could use some improvement. On many occasions what was delivered did not match the menu and they clearly struggled with preparing fish in the à la cart restaurants. At times service was slow and random. By far our favourite was Rodizio, which served Argentinian style spit roasted meats. Breakfast and lunch buffets had the usual offerings and with attentive, friendly serving staff. Overall we found resort staff to be attentive and very friendly. Managers and supervisors were receptive to our feedback and demonstrated a keen interest in improving their resort. Folks like Lizairia, Jose de la Cruz, Luis and Geury were frequently around to see how everything was and if they could do anything more. The General Manager was quite visible throughout our visit and seemed to be actively engaged with staff and her guests. We will definitely consider returning to this resort as it offered great value.

My husband and I spent a week at this resort at the end of March and it did not disappoint! Although the weather was less than ideal we made the most of it. It was our first time in Samana and it won't be the last. We stayed at the Luxury Bahia Príncipe in Runaway Bay, Jamaica last year and were very disappointed with our experience. This resort single handedly changed our opinion of the chain.

We stayed in Villa 12 and although it was a bit of a hike to the main building and the beach and pool, we needed the exercise. However, I do caution those with mobility issues. There are a lot of hills but luckily there are shuttles available. There is two sections to the beach with one being calmer. The beach is gorgeous! We spent time at the main pool as well as the "quiet pool". There is a bar at the quiet pool so it's a nice spot if you want a quiet environment.

We tried all of the restaurants during our stay with Don Pablo and Rodizio being our favourite.

This place would not have left such an impression on us if not for the amazing customer service. Throughout our stay we were asked by various customer service representatives what they could do to improve our stay. However, there are a few people I want to call out who went above and beyond. Rosario at the main buffet was wonderful and always took such great care of us. Yrineo made the best omelettes in the Caribbean and he always made my husband's fresh meat at lunch. He's the best! Also at the main buffet is Manaury. He was always ready to talk to us about baseball and greeted us with the biggest smile. Daniel at Portofino and Miguel at Don Pablo took amazing care of us at dinner and Nell (the "Coconut Boy") put on an amazing show one day at the beach. And Angel made our absolute favourite drink at Rodizio. He's great at what he does. Finally, I would be remiss if I didn't thank Lizairi for the amazing customer service shown to us even before we even arrived. That service is what made us decide to go with this resort in the first place.

The only thing I would suggest for improvement is the quality of the drinks at the beach bar. It was hit or miss and I've been to places with a greater variety in drinks. And lastly, if you're looking for a young vibe this place us not for you. It is an older demographic for sure (we are in our early 40's and we were younger by comparison). We did venture out to the beach party on our first night but it was a little disappointing. Also, it does appear that in May this resort will no longer be adults only. That's disappointing as when we travel as a couple we only stay at adults only resorts but perhaps we will consider it as a spot to vacation as a family.

The people of Samana are wonderful and this resort reflects that. I strongly recommend that you book this resort. It won't disappoint!

Private island with perfect private beach, spacious rooms, great foods, no kids, excellent staff - couldn't have asked for anything to improve. Entertainment and activities included. Perfect week for a couple!

We travelled the last week of February as part of a Supplier group so there was over 70 in our group. We arrived late at night so we didn't get to see much of Samana, took a solid hour then a bit of a wait to get on the water shuttle and another 15 minutes on the boat to the resort. Overall, it's a great resort . I prefer the larger resorts so I found things to see and do limited but yet for a small resort there was still a good deal of walking to beach or lobby etc. One negative for me was that at 11pm the bars all shut down as well as food so if you want a drink you need to walk over to the public beach area and get one at the disco bar which is owned by the hotel so there's no charge. If you want food your only option is to go back to your room and order room service and I found their menu limited. The buffet was good but again i'm used to larger resorts and large buffets, I found the buffet and options very small. It's relaxing and you feel a bit isolated since it's on an island but if you are looking for a very laid back place to stay it's a good choice. Also I want to note the walking is significant because it's not on flat land so there's uphill and downhill so not ideal for older people with mobility issues then again if you just take the golf cart shuttles you'll be fine. There is no swim up bar either which surprised me and they have an area with a large jacuzzi but it was pool temperature water which I noticed it was mentioned on other reviews. Oh and my final note is on the beach, it was ok but no comparison to Punta Cana beaches. The sand is much more granular here and the beach isn't huge, again because of it being on an island it's limited.

Where do I start... we arrived after a long flight from Manchester to Puerto Plata. We then had a 4.5 hour transfer to get to the resort's own port (half an hour toilet break) the obviously journey was long but pleasant. The boat ride to the resort didn't take long and we were greeted with cocktails and went straight into the main buffet for lunch. We're a couple who love great food and are very adventures eaters and we were never disappointed with the selection and the food, absolutely superb! The French restaurant is out of this world & if you like a daiquiri you must try the daiquiri Freza.

There are only 2 pools (one very quiet and the other located next to the beach which is more lively) and one jacuzzi which we didn't use. The private beach is beautiful, one side of the beach is very choppy (perfect for the breeze) and the other much calmer.

Entertainment was ok, we've stayed at Bahia Principe Cayacoa and the entertainment was much better, although this resort does have the luxury of having a disco on the beach in the evening.

We had a villa which was beautiful and right next to the quiet pool.Staff couldn't do enough for you from the catering team, maid to the customer care team!

For any gym goers... the gym was of a good standard and very clean.

I'm hesitant to write anything else as I wouldn't want to spoil it for you. Overall, we had the most amazing time, weather was exceptional. The only downfall was having to return home :(

Room Tip: Make sure you book the restaurants in advance
