So good the Trust have secured this typical village for posterity. Nothing spectacular but a small village which lost 3 villagers to the 1952 floods which swept on to Lynton and on down to Lynmouth causing terrible loss of life and devastation. Hard to believe now that an immense storm up the valley could do so much damage. Great pub to eat in and they have rooms too.

Charming little Exmoor village on a sylvan valley floor below the A39. Good starting point for fine walks in attractive countryside, and handy for the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway (its revived section) at Woody Bay station. The Fox & Goose pub offers good food and provides accommodation. Parracombe, for the most part a tiny collection of cottages lining a steep, narrow street, still has a post office, though it closes at 1pm each day. The medieval church is worth examining. For a stylish souvenir, visit the excellent pottery next to the Fox & Goose.
