“Great place !”
Reviewed 24 September 2016 for a stay in September 2016

Noel and Naomi have created a lovely gite, equipped to very high standards with everything you need to enjoy a relaxing stay.
The gite is spacious and very well equipped with comfortable furnishings , and lots of extra thoughtful touches such as toiletries, a supply of cleaning products, beach mats etc which really do make a big difference.
The outside area is great with a large pool and lots of space to dine outside and relax.
The village of Olonzac is close by with a number of bars , restaurants and shops which cater for most requirements.
Noel and Naomi are generous and welcoming hosts who treated us like old friends on our second visit.
Highly recommended !

“a very special feel to the place; a very special experience”
Reviewed 27 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

In a quick-glance nutshell:
Les Julianes is an exquisite accommodation with a well-thought out design, high spec décor and facilities with a spectacular indoor and outdoor space and wonderful sunsets and open field views in a rural setting. It is set between two villages and there are excellent historic towns, cities and beaches between 5 minutes and an hour’s drive away. A car is recommended to see all on offer Hosts Naomi and Noel are far and above the most welcoming accommodation owners I have ever known. I highly recommend Les Julianes to those who like a rural touch of class, swimming pool and outdoor dining and watching the sun set differently every night.

In more detail:
I thought I knew what to expect from the photographs, and indeed, it was exactly as shown, but the relentless ‘wow factor’ and wonderful feel to Les Julianes captured me immediately and stayed with me all week and since. Only a visit can give you the complete sense of peace, style and space the place offers.
We were greeted in the evening by our hosts, Naomi and Noel who, on knowing shops were closed by then, offered to cook us a most welcome meal. On our arrival, our fridge was stocked with milk, home-grown tomatoes and a bottle of bubbly and we were invited to use any food, cleaning products and bathroom products in the gite. There was every glass, plate, bowl and utensil any home would need and lots of towels, including beach towels. The gite was spotlessly clean and even had a dishwasher! Everything yelled ‘luxury’ and oh that double shower with the huge rose and detachable head was fantastic! The whole décor throughout was just simply beautiful. Our hosts invited us to eat with them a couple of times, whilst respecting our own space and holiday. They wer excellent hosts.
The outdoor space to the gite was ours, with a large, canopied table with lovely climbing vines and plants – and a much welcomed swimming pool. The undisturbed views were fields, and in the far distance were mountain ranges, allowing us to watch the most spectacular sunsets over a glass of wine or two. Again, you would need to be there to feel how good this experience is.
Les Julianes is between Azillanet and Olonzac, with the latter being the most vibrant with bars, restaurants and a fantastic market every Tuesday morning. Both villages are a 5 minute drive. Literally. You really need to see these! Nearby cities are Narbonne, Carcassonne and my favourite, Bezieres – all full of fantastic architecture and history (and some great shops too). There are a few beaches a drive away (nudist and non-nudist) that are really beautiful. All of these require a car as they are about 30 mins to an hour away.
Naomi and Noel invited us to a few social events in Olonzac, and we met the most friendly people and wine and dined with live music. What a holiday maker may not know is that the bar in the heart of the village allows you to get a croissant from the local patisseries and sit and eat it while ordering a coffee (or wine/beer) in their bistro area. How civilized is that! The residents are a mix of French and English so there is no language barrier if you don’t speak French.
I had wonderful memories made during my stay, and a week was not long enough to sample everything the place has to offer. I cannot recommend Les Julianes and this part of France enough.

“Great accommodation in lovely countryside”
Reviewed 24 May 2016 for a stay in May 2016

Our first visit to this major wine producing region of Minervois in the Languedoc. The gite was first class - spacious, comfortable accommodation, tastefully decorated and extremely well equipped. Far more gadgets and utensils than I have in my own kitchen! Two sets of french doors onto the pebbled terrace and garden and views to the Black Mountains across countryside and vineyards. One of the first things we noticed and enjoyed throughout was the birdsong - they sing loud and well in this part of the Minervois! Noel and Naomi are very welcoming and eager to assist in any way - great hosts. The farmhouse is very well located for local walking and also sightseeing in Cathar Country. Various top tourist spots are easily reached including Carcasonne (totally amazing with loads of great restaurants and parking right next to the castle); Minerve (spectacularly located and quaint with a good choice of restaurants and good parking); Lagrasse (quaint, charmingly situated and a hub for artists & artisans plus a fascinating abbey and some good restaurants. Good parking too); Canal du Midi (interesting to see with some attractive villages in the Minervois area - our favourite was nearby Argens - but in truth we were a little underwhelmed by the canal). There is a lot to see and do and wine lovers will be in heaven. The nearby Black Mountains are surprisingly green and lush when you explore their heart. Some knowledge of French is helpful and appreciated in smaller villages. It's easy to get around here - the roads are generally very good. It can be windy - hence quite a few wind farms! ... could have done with some ties on my sun hat when walking along the canal!!

“A lovely holiday getaway”
Reviewed 24 November 2015 for a stay in May 2015

Our first holiday to France and what a treat this lovely gite is. Hosts, Naomi & Noel, were incredibly welcoming and helpful with local advice and recommendations for days out. They were kind enough to invite us to join them for food and drinks, but were equally as discrete when we were happy in our own company after a long day of sightseeing.

The accommodation is of a high standard with all the amenities you could need. We particularly enjoyed using the lovely kitchen (we like to cook) and the outdoor space that allowed us to sit out late into the night with a bottle of wine and the sounds of the countryside. We stayed during an unusually hot May week, so the use of the pool was a god send when we needed to cool off.

A hire car would be recommended when staying as it is just outside of the town. But from our experience we would say that for the region as there is so much to explore, including Carcassonne and the Canal du Midi which are a must.

Thank you to Noel and Naomi for a lovely stay. A beautiful gite in a beautiful landscape.

“Already dreaming of our next stay!”
Reviewed 1 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

Everything and more than we could have imagined awaited us in this smartly appointed, luxuriously comfortable two-room “gite” just minutes north of the Canal du Midi in the Minervois region of Languedoc-Roussillon. Natural cooling is provided by the location of the apartment in the underground basement of a renovated old stone barn, but when the natural fraicheur is not enough, split A/Cs in both rooms cool to perfection. The large bedroom has a just firm enough king size bed, roomy armoire and dresser, with an ensuite bath with walk-in rain-head shower – perfect for rinsing off after a hot July day exploring nearby sights. Aromatic soap and lotion from l’Occitane were provided during our stay, as well as sundry items for first aid, insect repellent (though there were few biting insects in evidence at the time) and many little extras.

This is where the delightful hosts, Naomi and Noel, really outshine the rest: the little extras. They greeted us with a lovely bottle of wine from a vineyard just up the road, and since we had arrived long after stores had closed, made sure we had the necessities for morning coffee, including a pitcher of milk from their own kitchen, as well as a bottle of Perrier. The next morning, Noel took us into nearby Olonzac to show us the boulangeries and supermarket, then that evening they invited us to join them and their friends for wine and music at the lively Café de la Poste. They were consistently solicitous, offering opportunities for exploring local wineries in their company or on our own, but at the same time were completely sensitive to needs for privacy, peace, and quiet. Since they live above the apartment, coming home each day was like coming home to family who were happy to hear of our adventures, share a sunset over wine and cheese, and offer advice, information, and suggestions of other places to explore the next day.

They’ve made their home a beautiful oasis for their guests, a lovely place to work and play. The strong wifi signal made it possible for us both to work when we needed to, and the gorgeous shared pool off the pebble-beach-like flower-rimmed terrace made it easy to finish each day with a bit of exercise and a lot of relaxation. What more could one ask for?
We will definitely do this again!
