We learnt to surf here and the waves were perfect. Our instructors from Surf with William were Mamu and Oscar (who is a Costa Rican national champion) and they both got us up and surfing real waves very quickly
The beach is nice and relaxed too plus pretty clean

Thank Andy L

Playa Cocles is a great beach with a freshwater stream running parallel to it and finally crossing it on the south side. The north end of the beach is more commercialized. You can rent surfboards or take surfing lessons. The south end is less crowded and has the largest expanse of beach. Between the beach and the highway is a trail through the forest. On the very north end, a trail leads on the south side of a rock outcropping where you can climb the trail to get a great view of the nearby little island and watch waves crash against the rocks right in front of you. There are plenty places to part or trees to lock your bicyce. There are some good places to eat across the street from the beach, also. Our absolute favorite is Tasty Waves on the north end.

The beach vibe is everywhere here. In Puerto Viejo we were able to shop, drink, party, be alone, eat good food, visit the wildlife rescue center, and even attend a bonfire on the beach. Our whole family had a wonderful time with something for everyone.

This beach is nicely located between Puerto Viejo and Punta Uva. Surfing lessons are available and you can grab a bite to eat at anyone of several restaurants in town. There is plenty of space to lay down and enjoy some sunshine.

Another wonderful place in the Caribbean coast. Enjoy the forest, beach and caribbean culture coming all together in this magnificent place.
