Visiting the Mandela House is an absolute must for anyone visiting Johannesburg.
Located in the heart of Soweto, the house is now a small museum, with guided tours provided.
Full of history and artefacts personally used by Mr Mandela and others involved in Apartheid, the house brings the reality of the Apartheid era to life, along with the subsequent post 1990 transformation.
Vilakazi street (the street the house is situated on) has developed well for tourism, making the area great from which to buy a few souvenirs once you’ve finished viewing the house.
There are also many local restaurants which have now set up on Vilakazi street, making the area great for grabbing some local Soweto food (pap & chakalaka) once you’ve finished viewing the house.
