I stayed here with my wife for five days on our honeymoon a year ago (the selection box wouldn't let me select April 2014). It was the beginning of the season, so it was quiet. Nicolas and Christine, who were the most open and generous hosts, greeted us upon arrival. They helped with guiding us to places to visits, and advice on hiring cars etc. No request was too much, and they were exceptionally friendly.

We stayed in the Chambre de l'Allée, with a huge window that overlooked the front drive - stunning in both morning and evening light. The bed was very comfortable, and the room spacious and clean. The bathroom was very clean with modern appliances. There were other visitors in the hotel - arriving late for one night, and leaving early - but it was always quiet and we were never disrupted.

The rest of the Chateau was carefully decorated to maintain its heritage (it's the family home of Nicolas), whilst having modern touches. Make sure you have at least one evening meal here, as the food and wine are expertly cooked and chosen. The grounds were extensive, beautiful, and serene - allowing pleasant walks in fields and rivers.

The Chateau is very much in the countryside, so hiring a car is advisable (if you don't already have transport). But is very close to beautiful scenic locations and historic chateaux. Lots of villages and towns are nearby for day excursions. You can hire bikes in the local village and cycle on the allocated paths along the Loire.

I immensely recommend Chateau La Touanne, and Nicolas and Christine, and encourage you to spend some time here. All together, it made our honeymoon extremely special, relaxing, and memorable. We look forward to the time we get to go back again - hopefully with friends in order to show them how beautiful it is - and again and again...

I cannot recommend this place highly enough. We had a wonderful warm welcome from Nicholas and Christine. Magnificent historical chateau in excellent condition throughout. The grounds are extensive and you're encouraged to use them, we saw red squirrels in the trees and deer grazing in the grounds at sunset. The heated pool is lovely. The rooms are comfortable and of the highest quality. The chateau is set in farmland, it's very peaceful, at night it's utterly dark, with zero light pollution and no noise whatsoever. We had supper here on the first of our two nights and what a sumptuous and superb meal we had! The very best in french home cooking and the highest quality at a very good value. On the subject of food the breakfast is outstanding too; very generous and of the best quality.

In short: Superb, superb, superb.

Room tip: Any of them, they're all lovely; their website pictures don't do the place justice, the rooms are beautifully and tastefully decorated, comfortable. calm and just about perfect.

We spent a pleasant week-end in this charming castle, which is a nice mix of history of France and modern comfort.
The owners are friendly and helpful.
The breakfast is a good time With a real melting-pot of guests.

Chateau la Touanne is truly a lovely place to stay for a short break. Beautiful setting and great hosts, lovely rooms and good wine and home cooked food. Breakfast was one of the best we have had in France. I can really recommend this hotel..... Enjoy.

Sadly, this was only a one night stay en route to a holiday in the Lot-et-Garonne. We were made to feel very welcome and relaxed by the family, having arrived using Sawday's guide. The pool was lovely after a long drive from Calais. The room was perfect - beautiful antique furniture, huge bathroom and enormous bed. Dinner was delicious accompanied by great wine suggested by Nicolas. We ate with a lovely British family, also on their way to a week's holiday.

Walked in the grounds which are very pretty including a dilapidated Pigeonnier and idyllic boathouse. Also identified fly-fishing potential on the lovely stretch of chalk stream owned by the family - more news on this if I can persuade Nicolas to open for trout fishing!

Cannot recommend this place highly enough. The family's huge efforts have resulted in a friendly, quiet, comfortable and reasonably-priced place to stay. If you stay here you'll want to return time and again - you've been warned! Thank you Nicolas, Christine and all the d'Abovilles!
