We stayed for a week at the end of December and on into early January. The house was lovely and well-equipped and - unless you sail out to Clare Island - Louisburgh is almost as far as you can get unless you're thinking of swimming to Canada. The terrible storms sweeping Ireland and the UK recently made the cosy house with the possibility of a peat fire all the more attractive and the weather lifted enough to allow us to visit the amazing beaches and wild mountain scenery nearby. We got to the lovely Ashleigh Falls near Killary Harbour at the end of Ireland's only fjord and the scenery is fabulous. Louisburgh itself has a surprising variety of local services and facilitiesand if you want more it's only 18kms to the pretty town of Westport by a lovely road beside the holy mountain of Croagh Patrick and with lovely views over Clew Bay to the Nephin Mountains on the other side. It's right on the other side of the country from Dublin but absolutely worth the visit - a great rental property at a reasonable price.
