“Must visit place in Batanes”
Review of Sabtang Beach

Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Sabtang is an island in Batanes and you can only get to this island through a boat. If you don't have a tour package, make sure that you go early to the port as the travel agencies in Batanes send the guests name the day before for reservation. Just to make sure that you get the slot get into the boat, make sure you are early. There are tricycles that you can rent to go around Sabtang, fixed rate is 1k (again, if you are not in a tour package).

A half day tour is really not enough for this wonderful island. If you want something out of the box -- you may consider spending at least one night in one of the villages in Sabtang -- because of a film camp, we ended up getting a homestay in Chavayan. The host family, Aling Mathilda's, was great, very kind and they made us feel at home. On the way to Chavayan village, there was "secret beach" we went to.. You can also play along with the kids or chat with the elders at the village.

For those interested, you may want to get the services of a local tour guide, a relative of Aling Mathilda. Her name is Gemalin Hostallero, her number is 09107183698.

If you are going to sabtang island in Batanes, make sure you set yourself at the right side of the boat. As you come near the island you will be greeted by a lighthouse atop a cliff that is simply marvelous.

Sabtang houses a village with the classic stone houses, dozens of limestone formations in their beach, the weaving village of the Ivatans and a lot more.

When you get tired walking, a fresh buko will always quench your thirst and it is available in many street corners.

Sabtang island should not be missed when you visit Batanes. Just 30 to 40 minutes away from Batan Island using a boat. I was enthralled by he geologically formed ach called Mahayaw Arch, remarkably picturesque rolling green mountains of Chamantad-Tinyan. Known also for the traditional stone houses of Savidug. Also rented for P20 the the vakul headgear if you want to wear it for a photo shoot. Also witnessed how an old woman weave the vakul.
