We recently returned from a lovely 2 week stay at Le Serena for our annual holiday.
La Serena is a beautiful, well equipped and well maintained villa in the heart of the Umbrian countryside and was exactly what we were looking for from our holiday.
Owned by the very nice Derek and Steph, who were always only a phone call away, we benefited from their extensive local knowledge by providing recommendations of villages to visit, shops to use and places to eat - one of which had one of the best deserts I have ever had!
The Villa and the grounds it sits in are large to say the least and for our party of 8 people, La Serena accommodated us effortlessly. All of the bedrooms have been individually decorated and the kitchen and dining facilities easily coped with the catering needs of adults, children and teenagers all eating and living together. The kitchen and cooking facilities are amazing, ovens, ranges, BBQ, Pizza Oven and the cupboards are busting with utensils - believe me when I say there is everything you will ever need if you want to go down the road of self catering for meals and you enjoy cooking. A couple of tips - If you are BBQ'ing make sure you get your meat from Derek's butcher and if you can't find a pan, just look up!!!
Living accommodation is also spacious and having pockets of seating around the villa in the reception hall, the library and outside in addition to the main lounge, meant we never felt crammed in together during our stay.
The highlight of the holiday for us was the pool. The kids in particular loved it and Derek and Steph cleaned it regularly during our stay. It gets the sun pretty much all day and is the perfect refreshment for anyone wanting to cool down after some sunbathing.
The Villa's location is tucked away and rural and when the sky is clear at night you really do get to see the stars. Practically, you'll need a car to get anywhere but there are a good choice of shops locally for food, wine, a chemist and a great bakery for fresh bread and cakes all just a short trip in the car.
While based at the Villa, we did trips to Perugia, Assisi and we did "The Three P's" tour that Derek and Steph recommended, there is lots more to see and we left our holiday thinking we had only scratched the surface of the area.
Would we return to La Serena? Most definately.
